Reverie

I can honestly say that this book left me with one overwhelming emotion: confusion. The plot holes were so massive I don’t even know what was supposed to be the logic behind some things. I’m just so confused.

(4.5)

A note of caution when you compare yourself to The Magicians: it’s a ridiculously high bar to set. Reverie doesn’t quite measure up. I wanted to like it, I really did. There were a few really great moments and quote-worthy lines, but overall it just felt rushed and incomplete. I truly enjoy the idea of this story, though. Given a second chance, I know an idea like this could really become something phenomenal.

I wanted to love this one SO badly because Ryan is an absolute gem on twitter, but this just did not work for me. I had such a hard time wrapping my brain around the reveries and an even harder time connecting to the characters. Everything just felt disjointed and messy and I am SAD. Brb while I cry myself to sleep bc I didn't love this book like I thought I would

As our main character says.... "Just gay enough to work".

This was a super fun read; as openly flamboyant as a book can possibly be. That, combined with a beautiful style of prose that really elicits that dreamlike feeling, makes it exactly the book it ought to be. Really delightful.

ARC received from the publisher. My views and opinions are my own.

Slightly disappointing start to the new year, but that’s ok.

I really enjoyed the book, however there were aspects I didn’t care for. I want to give the author credit for combining a contemporary setting with magical elements, it’s definitely not an easy task. There were aspects I enjoyed, and some things I didn’t.

Things I enjoyed:
It’s not everyday you read about an evil drag queen trying to take over the world.
Kane and his friends
Dean
The detailed elements in the reveries
Evil Drag queen

Things I didn’t care for:
The edit of how the jumps to and from the reveries
Sophia
How it started; which is probably what threw me off from the start. I feel a back story would have been better than jumping right into the story. While we learn about what happened throughout the book, I felt some parts were revealed too late in the story.

I still feel like this was a solid debut, but I’m not sure if it was the right type of book for me.

This is the worst book I can remember reading. It had no business being published as it is written. The story does not flow like it should, typos abound, the agenda is overt and so pushy it felt like an assault. It is beyond bad, it is a disgrace to literature and story telling. Save yourself time, money, and frustration. Skip this book.

Not thrilled with the ending...rather lackluster

It’s more like 3.5. Mostly because I just had the hardest time getting into the story. I loved the message and the characters and the discussion my book club had with this book! Some parts were just a tad confusing and it took me a while to get into it. I really think teenagers should read this though because of the messaging!!
