Trigger Warnings: memory loss, death, false memories, minor gore, bullying, homophobia,
Reverie is a magical queer fantasy story, that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I will definitely be picking up any books Ryan La Sala writes in the future because the writing in Reverie was beautiful. The world and magic were so unique and clever. While I like that this book is a standalone story, I do wish it had been longer so the ending wasn’t rushed.
Reverie follows Kane’s journey throughout the story. I really liked Kane, he is a gay teenager struggling with memory loss. I liked the dynamics of the friendship group, and I loved how supportive they all were. The villain in Reverie was amazing! The relationship between Dean and Kane was so wonderful, they had so much chemistry.
Overall, Reverie is a wonderful queer fantasy story, about friendship, love, and dreams which I highly recommend!
Thank you to New South Books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Really interesting concept! I listened to it as an audiobook and I don't think I was able to focus on it the entire time (I'm not usually an auditory person), but I really enjoyed the way the story was pieced together and the descriptions of each Reverie.
Oh my god???????? This was perfect! I absolutely adored it and I just don’t really have words???? Each and every character was fleshed out and I loved all of them, Dean and Ursula probably being my favorites.
The amount of LGBT+ rep in this book, my god, it’s more and 100x better than my own writing. It’s so good. I just love it. I’m going to try and convince everyone I know to read it.
Kane is such a dumbass and I love him?? I would die for this fuck up. He’s also kind of an asshole but aren’t we all? And I think that just makes him so much better, not a protagonist who can do no wrong. Boy does TONS of wrong. Fucks up constantly.
I literally do not care what Ryan’s next book is about, I’m going to preorder it IMMEDIATELY as soon as it’s announced. The humor was really good, and I liked the writing and I think for a debut novel it was amazing! I’m super excited to follow Ryan’s progress further on.
I think The Others will have a special place in my heart for a while.

I was very lost and confused. I don’t like reading stories where you have no idea what is going on and not much information is giving. I was very frustrated, so I quit around page 80.

this was pretty good. the concept is super interesting, although a little confusing. i liked all the characters; ursula has a special place in my heart and i am an adeline defender for life. kane lowkey kind of annoyed me at some moments but man was going through it so i guess i can forgive him. dean was also such a cool character and i love him. overally, the book was really funny and well written and has a great message

Original, enjoyable, and thought-provoking: my three favorite chatacteristics in a book, united here. A little creepy and eerie, but doesn’t cross into real horror (which is too much for me!). Really interesting and imaginative, and highly recommended.
Here’s what’s great:
Word choices, language, and some incredibly quotable sentences.
The concept of dreams giving power, but also potentially being consuming.
Dean.
