What I liked: great characters, dialogue, relationships between characters, whether it be side characters, romantic, platonic, sibling, family, etc, everyone's interactions, world building, concept. The writing was well done and dreamy, I honestly did feel the echoes of Inception and I loved it.

What I didn't like: Kane's decision-making skills, but such is life as a main character with amnesia.

(4.7) I thought this book was amazing. The worlds were so well crafted and the characters each had distinct personalities. It was impossible to predict the ending! I would definitely recommend it.

Not sure if I don't get it, am really not into crazy fantasy novels, lack of story development (yes, there was a story. Yes it was resolved. But I don't know how we got to the end.), or just, I don't know. I like the ideas of a reverie, I like the idea of powers, I don't really like Kane, who forgets everything and doesn't feel any connection to his old friends. Who remembers some things randomly but it doesn't make any sense. I wish there was more, I wanted to like it.

It’s been almost a week since I’ve finished it and I’m still so unsatisfied. This book was CONFUSING. It had a promising concept, and I loved the representation of a LBGTQ teen boy. But there was just so many holes in the story and the explanation of the Reveries that made it really hard to get into. I felt like the reader had to do a lot of work with this one, and I didn’t get much reward for it. Might have also hurt that I listened to it rather than reading it.

I have no idea what to say about this other than I LOVED it. I picked it up for a readathon and dreaded the page number- but I ate through it like it was nothing and just want some more. So glad they brought up Ms. Daisy again at the end I was on tenterhooks lmao

Bring it to the runway, ra-ra-ra-runway.

I laughed, I cried, I gagged, and I laughed again. It’s rare to find a story that evokes a variety of emotions in one book. More importantly, the diverse cast at the novel’s disposal. Kane isn’t perfect, he can be selfish, he goes against people’s advice, and for me, it makes him all the more human.

Going into the book I was expecting LGBTQIA+ Harry Potter due to the reviews quoting it as such. I, however found more. I felt the campiness of Sailor Moon woven into Reveries’ DNA, the complex dream structure of Inception, and the whimsical world of magic that was in earlier Harry Potter films - I’m still thinking about the final confrontation between the protagonist and the antagonist!

I sincerely hope this book progresses into a series. I would love to see the characters develop further, and what consequences the final confrontation beholds for Kane and his friends.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, the mystery of what happened, Kane's interactions with his sister and the police. Then right around when his friends are introduced, it turns into a rushed mess. It definitely has the feeling of a series that the writer condensed down into a stand alone novel. Kane's power wasn't well defined, and the most I ever understood about it was he has rainbows come out of his hands.

Hello does this count as a magical boy book??

Anyway I might've liked this even more than Beholder, I've no idea why it's rated so "low". Vibrant magic, lovable characters, romance, mystery and trust issues, this book has everything. I didn't find it confusing at all and imo the pacing was fine, although yeah, maybe the magic and plot can feel kind of.. vague. But what an interesting backwards building of romance, I've only seen it in a couple of amnesia stories and usually not done this well.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read that I'll probably want to come back to when I'm feeling disappointed with books in the future.. (I'm already sad I don't have any more Ryan La Sala fantasy stories left to read)
