*trigger warning* Firekeeper's Daughter was my first pick after a long break from reading, and it perfectly reignited my love for books. The characters are captivating, and while the plot might initially feel intricate, it unfolds in a satisfying way. However, there's a *trigger warning* sexual assault that takes place to the main character Daunis. As a survivor myself, that particular scene resonated with me in a difficult way. It's important to note that the author handles it sensitively, avoiding graphic details that could be triggering. This book, unlike others I've encountered, doesn't sensationalize the assault. On a positive note, Firekeeper's Daughter made me feel strongly connected to my Native American heritage. It's a well-written story, and I'm eager to see more like it!

Book CW: r*pe , but not descriptive or long. I think author handled it with care, though any amount can be triggering to some.
Now, my review: what an amazing and important book. Rich in lessons of healthy relationship boundaries, female companionship and strength and support, caring for elders and community, parent-child relationships, sibling relationships, complicated blended families, coping with trauma, and more.
This is the first book I have ever read featuring a Native protagonist and it was beautiful.
This book was so excellent that I dropped everything today and read the whole thing. My eyes are tired but I am filled.
