Annnd there it is. That adrenaline rush you get when you finish a PKD masterpiece.
This one really hits close to home, in ways that I can't even express. Is it the civil war part? Is it the part about migration being a natural human urge? Is it the whole nature of reality concept? It's all of it. Time out of Joint contains all the ingredients that give a Philip K. Dick book a stellar taste (plot), sumptuous flavor (mystery), gorgeous texture (characterization), amazing juiciness (reveal/resolution), and the right level of spiciness (paranoia/ethereality). What can I say, I was on the edge of my seat for seven hours straight reading this book, which I know for a fact will stay with me for a long time.

This book was not what I expected it to end up being (based purely on the tiny bit of blurb on the back) and that was not a bad thing. From ~pg 30 onwards I became progressively more drawn towards the “what is going on?” that underpins this story. That sense of unease of being in a room you know well but everything’s just been moved 1 degree to the right/couple of cm to the left is a continuous thread subtly woven into this book.

Really picked up as it went on. Definitely a major influence on a lot of later science fiction. In the vein of “Supermarket Postmodernism”
