Not the best, enjoyed the Truman Show premise but weaker as far as actual character development, intrigue, and plot. Some of the more interesting things are not addressed while the focus switches to a conspiracy theory.

Once again K.Dick just takes you for a fucking ride
If you love The Penultimate Truth and Ubik... Meet the book that started it all! Mind-bending and marvellous! Another 5* rating for PKD from me!
Some of the ideas in here don’t really get explained effectively but the overall story, and surprisingly relevant themes of immigration and nationalism, make it a 4 star for sure.
3.5
"Time Out of Joint" is little slow to start, but once it gets to the heart of the story, it holds the reader's attention.
"Time" is an early PKD novel, having been published in the late 50's. This seems to be about when PKD matured as an author, as "Time" includes his usual themes of how the world is persevered to be vs how it actually is, and the dubious trustworthiness of government. The only thing that marks "Time" as an earlier work is that it takes a little longer to really get started than PDK's later works. What is set up in the first part is important, but could have benefit from a little trimming.
Still, even with a slow start "Time" brings up some interesting issues and is a worthy read for both PKD fans, and general fans of sci-fi.

Time Out of Joint is the fifth PKD novel I've read, 3 of those read in 2020. So far I'm finding him to be a very compelling and fascinating author. The paranoia, the drug influence (sometimes), the same themes that appear to be obsessions coming up in multiple books. Questioning reality, not trusting authority, disturbing visions of the future, against fascism. Those themes seem to all be here in this book.
I had multiple predictions in my head for how the book would end, what the actual truth would be and I was still surprised by what I read. The journey from idyllic 50s life to some sort of unraveling of a mental mystery is near flawlessly done. I want to read everything the man has written, my only concern is indulging myself too much in my own paranoia and questioning ways as a result. Onward anyway
