One of the saddest books I’ve ever read. The author does a great job painting the scene of the Third World and it’s optimistic view of the future, then details the process that it gets systematically destroyed. The book does a great job throwing in personal stories from the many people he interviewed so it doesn’t feel like you’re reading a textbook, and the author only includes straight facts, never offering theories or his own thoughts. The book is just the truth of what happened and also how it personally effected some people.
I’ve learned so much from this book but it was hard to finish due to the sad nature of it. The story of Washington’s plans to destroy any remotely (or perceived) left leaning governments and groups is a tough pill to swallow for those unaware of this part of America’s history, but it’s something I think all Americans should understand.

This book was so educational on topics we never hear about in America. It will really give you a righteous anger about the injustices of this world and what could have been.

I am so much more informed having read this.
Everyone should read this since the effects of USA’s intervention in foreign democracies are still seen everywhere. My fellow Americans especially can benefit from it as it’s a huge part of our recent history that is missing from our curriculum.
