Other than the dead bug smeared on a page of the library book, I enjoyed it immensely! I had trouble putting it down, and at the end, I was left with my mouth open. I'm so pumped to read the third and final book of the series!

The choice to have a path to another world be through a hippo's mouth was an iconic choice, but Jason as a character going "If it worked once, maybe it'll work again" & going for it makes it so much funnier

This book was even better than the first!

The sequel is often not as good as the original, but not in this case. At this point, we’re already invested in the world and the characters so we didn’t have to spend much more time on exposition and we were able to just cut to the chase.

I loved seeing the character development, not just in single characters and their personalities but in relationships and abilities.
Speaking of abilities, I Love Rachel’s new talents. I feel like it solidified her as a more Main character and there is so much Potential! I can’t wait to see where it leads.

We are learning so much more about all of our favorite characters and places and I am all for it. I love that this series gives development and personality to side characters, instead of leaving them as flavorless blobs.

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite character but Galloran is definitely up there. His sword fights were just straight up Epic and I don’t think my imagination did them justice.

I’m so pumped to read the next book, I have no idea how any of this is going to be resolved.

There's a lot more travel and a much larger cast in this so it doesn't quite capture the distilled feeling of danger from the previous installment, but it's still a fun, uneasy romp - people do, in fact, still die at the drop of a hat - through the different regions of Lyrian. Glad to see Edomic used a lot more, and Jason and Rachel's progression growing into the archetypal heroes. Maldor remains probably the most cunning villain I've ever seen in a series for this age range, fuck. I have to call him a California girl with a Pixiv account (trust me) to remain sane.
