The first 80% of this book tells a fictional story about a dysfunctional team at a fictional tech company. This was real 'hang on the edge of your seat' storytelling with characters that we can all recognize from our work lives and you become very invested in the new CEO Catherine fixing this team and company.
I coudn't wait until it moved into the 'facts' section explaining where she got her model or the type of practical things to apply to fix the dysfunctions and boy-oh-boy did it get disappointing fast. Firstly, that section was VERY thin and the few practical tips that were there included using the Myers-Briggs - which should be a red flag.
So I looked it up and found the most cutting thing I've ever read on Wikipedia "The simplicity of the Five Dysfunctions model and key insights make it popular among human resource professionals and team consultants. Nonetheless, Lencioni's book is explicitly a work of fiction; it is not based on research and its practical recommendations lack empirical support. "
Accurate.

The book starts with a fable on story about the five dysfunctions of a team. This story helps enforce the dysfunctions and makes it easier for you to remember them. Highly recommend reading this book.
This was a thoroughly entertaining book. It's not often that I read a business book and I actually care about the characters. I got super invested, and I learned a fair amount from the characters' struggles. It's also so interesting how closely this ties into Brene Brown's thoughts on vulnerability.
The leadership book club that was reading this together discontinued our meetings.

Hands down one of the best business books I’ve read in a while. I like when business books use stories to make concepts come alive, and this one offers plenty I could apply to my own life. While the ideas aren’t groundbreaking, I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in teamwork.
