"You are defending some unnamed territory inside of you that houses what's true."

* written through the lens of her songs ("Once Upon A Time" represented her childhood, "Beautiful Girl" was a collection of letters to her younger self, etc.), which gave extra insight into the songs themselves beyond the lyrics we already know and love

* full of disarming wit, charm, and vulnerability - it is honestly introspective and full of fascinating insight into the music/performing industry

"My personality got bigger and bigger among my peers to distract them from my body. I acted more and more like a clown to fill the space that had otherwise been filled with insults."

Enjoying a new and different audiobook. Sara Bareilles literally creates spine tingling goosebumps with each chapter intro that includes an A cappella version of one of her many wonderful songs.
If you're a big fan like me, do yourself a favor and make this be your next book.
I adore her honestly, her brave face to forthcoming with fear and insecurities, for opening up even more to the fans who just wanted to hear a bit more.

I have loved Sara's music for a very long time but this book delves into the deepest the most wonderful parts of her life and made me have an even more intense appreciation for the person she is. If you love music and/or know someone struggling with depression you should read this book. So basically EVERYONE read this book! I also got to witness her perform live at the BAM theater in Brooklyn and would highly recommend seeing she in person if you get the chance!

I loved this glimpse into how an artist creates. Books about music are my second favorite type of books. I enjoy the author’s music and really ate up this book about how some of her songs were created.

This is a series of cute and fun insights for those of us who love Sara. It is only valuable for big fans most likely, but the audiobook was EXCELLENTLY produced and very much felt like a cross between a fun conversation with her and a love letter to herself and her fans.

*Warning- lots of use of the word m**f*** at the end. Probably not an issue for most- happens to be one of the few words I'm not a huge fan of. But Sara does use it humorously.*
