I love her music and she sings a song at the beginning of every chapter in this audiobook. I loved learning the backstory to her life and the songs she writes.

I actually really loved this type of memoir/biography/whatever this book classifies as. I have started reading a lot of these types of books, but Sara has managed to write hers in a way that is completely different and unique, just like she is in the musical world as well. I loved how each chapter was dedicated to one of her songs, and not only was the explanation of the song in each chapter but also a whole other backstory/part of her life that I never knew about before. I can only hope she writes another book (even though it seems like she hated the process, haha) to hear about some of my other favorite songs of hers. I also loved her sense of humor, which having never seen her live unfortunately, I did not know was a part of her personality. The stories and humor, combined with lovely photos really made me appreciate Sara for the artist she is and for the fact that she was brave enough to open up about so many things in this book.

I think we tend to elevate any kind of artist to another level, and this book really normalized Sara for me. Just like any other person, she has had her ups and downs, struggles and successes, etc. I'm thankful for this book, because she reminded me of that. People are people. We just need to connect with each other, tell stories, and learn and support each other.

This book felt like the (200 page) letter of life lessons from the older sister that I always wanted but never had.

*contain spoiler*

I listen to her songs when I've watched movies. Eventually I start to like her songs.

Then I start reading about her real struggle, in life and in being a musician. It never occurred to me that someone like her have all those insecurities. Yet that what makes me adore her more. She didn't hide them but make the best out of it.

Take a break if you need one, S!
