This is the first time I’ve revisited this book since it was first published in 2015. I think it means more now than it did originally. I was able to make a lot more connections than I did at the time — like Jennifer Nettles in Waitress and how Jack Antonoff being tied to Brave makes the most sense.

There is so much to love about this book, but I’m also a super fan and probably the most biased.

Sara is tenacious. She creates opportunities, find solutions if something doesn’t work out the first time, and is willing to learn and improve her skills. It felt kind of full circle to read how she auditioned for Cinderella in Into the Woods and didn’t get it, but to have just recently ended a run as the Baker’s Wife like seven years later.

A part that stuck out was how she talked about collaborating with others. I appreciated her walking through her experience when she was first signed to her label and had to meet with various songwriters. It was almost a Goldilocks and the Three Bears situation of finding the right environment to be the most creative and authentic. I think that’s something I really appreciated in her story with Jack. Since reading this book, I’ve grown a strong appreciation for his work and how he’s collaborated with Taylor Swift — so to return to these pages and read how he worked with Sara and the relationship they had in creating that song made me like him even more. I want them to collaborate again one day.

I also had a deeper understanding while reading her chapter on Waitress. I was fortunate to attend a night of the Waitress tour in 2021 after having listened to the soundtrack most of 2020 and connecting with the songs. To hear “She used to be mine” live gave me goosebumps and I was practically sobbing. Reading about how she got involved and contributed to such a fantastic production was so fascinating having now experienced the art firsthand.

Can’t wait to see what’s next for Sara. Probably not another book, but one can dream.

I've been a fan of Sara's music since I first heard her perform solo and with Awaken A Cappella at UCLA. Her songs express an emotional truth and depth - or playfulness - that is compelling. And on stage, she feels genuine and human, both funny as hell and flawed like the rest of us. She captures that essence in this book and allows us in to see her private side, as a regular person like the rest of us! I was eager to read this book and it surpassed my high expectations with its rawness, wittiness, and beauty. Sara is a treasure.

Absolutely lovely! Listened to the audiobook and the acapella chapter openings were beautiful. I could relate to a lot of Sara's life/experiences and it made me realise even more so, why, Sara's music speaks to me the way it does :)

An absolute delight. Sara B has long been a favorite; she's as charming on the page as she is in the ears. Bummed she had a bad experience on the Sing Off though.

I gave it five stars because I listened to the audiobook and loved the singing and guest-read essays. Thank you, Sara, for sharing your insecurities, dreams, and successes. This book is an example of why I love autobiographies.

I listened to this book on audio (which I highly recommend - as she sings pieces of her music and you simply get to hear her own voice) and loved pretty much every minute of it.

What’s not to love? I have always loved Sara’s music. I saw her live years ago and loved her even more after that. When I came across this book, I knew I would love listening to it. Just wished it was even longer, but thankful she wrote it!
