This book is as beautiful, open, and touching as her music is. I was brought to laughter and tears, and that in itself is a big accomplishment for me. I'm so thankful for this woman, and the world she shares.

An absolute diamond of an autobiography. I am looking forward to the next instalment... Unputdownable and has given a deeper meaning to many of her songs as well as introducing me to songs I've never even heard before. ❤️

Each chapter pairs with a song, so it was fun to listen to the song and see how it fits into her life.
It is strange to learn how someone who appears so strong and put together hasn't always been that way. This was a real and tender book, but I would only recommend it to big fans of Sara... It also made me crave a trip to Italy :)

(4.5) I have a special admiration for women who are authentic and real (see review of [b:Becoming|38746485|Becoming|Michelle Obama|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1528206996s/38746485.jpg|60334006]), so naturally I love Sara Bareilles. I actually went to Eureka High School at the same time she did and saw her perform in "Little Shop of Horrors" there, though was shocked when I heard "Love Song" on the radio and realized it was her; high school seemed like a long, long time ago.

What I loved about her memoir is that she is as honest and forthcoming as possible and she shares all her foibles and flaws, her self-doubt, and her hard-earned wisdom and success. She is a gem.

(I didn't give it a full 5 stars because I wasn't too keen on the chapter written as letters to herself; though they were effective emotionally, they interrupted the flow for me.)

Wow. Sara.

So I've always enjoyed Sara Bareilles. I remember played DJ at parties in college and always pleasing the crowd with "Love Song." "Brave" made me feel empowered.

Then I saw "Waitress." And I was blown away. The music is so wonderfully designed, it's a heartfelt story. I was so beyond impressed. I saw her book on my boyfriend's shelf at home and decided to read it. I've spent most of the book in tears because of these reasons:

1. I have never related to a celebrity more than with this wonderful young woman. I am constantly at war with myself. She spoke my inner monologue on every page.
2. It's such a struggle in the entertainment industry, and finding where you fit is a long battle.
3. I could hear her songs as she discussed them. And most of them bring me to tears in good/personal ways.

It's a fantastic collection of essays on how to live, learn and love yourself. It's a fantastic collection of essays on how to find what you want out of life, and it shows one person's struggle & how she conquered the small things to get through today.

Read it. It's one of the best and humblest celebrity bios/essay collections I've read in a very long time. I am so inspired by Sara.

Very raw. Listened to the audio book which was read by the author, and sung mind you. She read the songs that each chapter is based on. Even more, she had her "guest authors" (friends who wrote stories) read them. I have enjoyed listening to her whole life.

Sara chooses to present her life (so far) in eight essays, introducing each chapter with handwritten song lyrics. She sprinkles personal photos throughout the story, which I love more than having a dedicated "photo section" in the middle. She doesn't hide the truth about her personal struggles but addresses them without oversharing (such as explaining she was depressed at the end of a significant relationship, but doesn't detail anything else about the relationship -- keeping truly personal things personal).

I finished the book feeling like I had met Sara at a party -- that I now knew more about her than I ever had before, but that there is still more to learn in the future.

Wish my library had had the audiobook of this one. I really enjoyed getting the insider knowledge of her process and the stories behind the songs. Sara isn't really in the news much when it comes to her relationships (which I'm sure she appreciates), but her songs are so emotional that it's nice to get some background.

Listen to this as an audiobook. It will be the best thing you do all year.

This book was delightful. I found Sara to be sharp, witty, and relatable. Listening to the audio book, she sings the beginning of each essay, which is charming and beautiful.
