I’m fascinated by these 1950s Miss Marple books, with their concern for the passage of time and changes to the pre-war economic order. Also Christie always manages to fool me about the criminal for much longer than I expect.
I liked this one. It isn't a classic Marple mystery, and I like the setting alot. It almost reads like a film, what with bank robberies and mafiosos and whatnot.
I enjoyed the feel of this book, but it took a while to get to the actual mystery. I think I prefer Agatha Christie's murders, she does them so well!
I think Miss Marple despite her claims of understand or knowing that progress happens is a bit too judgmental in this book.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great read. But I have so many questions about Bessie. I did like the Cannon, his housekeeper, and Father.

Miss Marple novel about a disappearance and a murder at Bertram's Hotel - an old fashioned hotel in central London. Found this easy to follow and really engaging!
Interesting plot centered around a posh old-fashioned hotel in central London.
Some excellent humour and characters.
Not quite up to the bar of "Roger Ayckroyd" or "Ten Little Indians", but definitely worth a look.

Bertram’s Hotel är en kvarleva från äldre tider, omsorgsfullt bibehållet för att vara just det. Men stämningen är mystisk och farlig, och snart är det både tågrån och mord för Miss Marple att klura på.

Even though it took me a while to read this book, I really enjoyed it.
The setting of the circumstances is slow. No one dies until about halfway through the book (I know!) but gosh it's a great story and plot. I do love a Miss Marple mystery. Never underestimate Miss Jane Marple!
