very good minibook. i love jack dandy and it was nice for him to have his own story and it sheds light on the girl with the iron touch. i'm hoping we see more of jack in the next book.

The second best Novella in the series (which seems bad, but Finley's novella is just so good man) this is a fun romp of a book, it can't be read as a stand alone (i mean i guess in theory it could???) but it shouldn't be. It gives a lot of really fun insight into who Jack is when Finley (who is the main narrator when we see jack in the main books) isn't around. I really liked it.

I like these little novellas. What a nice trend in series/genre literature. This story gives some insight into Jack Dandy's past and rolls him back into the overall story as well. I am definitely intrigued by the next full novel as a result.

I think like most readers of The Steampunk Chronicles, Jack Dandy is one of my favorite characters. While he is simply a guest star of the main books, he is one of the most richly developed characters. He is quick and witty, and described as the under lord of London. I was thrilled to pick up this novella and learn more about him and what makes him tick.

At only forty-four pages I knew that I would be a quick read, but I didn't think I would really be disappointed. I didn't realize until after I read book three that this was supposed to be 2.5.

The story started off interesting enough, but by the time I was about halfway through it, I thought man, why wasn't this added as the prologue to the third book, why did it have to be a book of its own. I found it a bit tedious, it seemed like an afterthought, and perhaps it was. I understand that it was supposed to be a teaser of the story to come, but maybe even putting it at the end of book two would have been preferred.

Anyway, enough with my gripes. It was nice to see the inner workings of Jack Dandy. While he is one of my favorite characters, you don't really get to know a lot about him through the other books. He should be a main character, not a side plot, but we can't make the author write what we want to read.

Jack's character is mysterious, maybe that is why he is so intriguing. I think it is important not to shed too much light on him so that he doesn't lose this quality but I hope that by the end of the series he proves to his father that he is worthy of the family name.

As readers, we really didn't know much Jack or his past before this novella. In it, we learned a lot about his past and his motivation to do well, even if it is the type of work that others may frown upon.

All in all, I enjoyed the story, but do wish it was longer so that I could have learned more about this wonderful character.

This short story gives a view on the events before the third book. I liked it to get into the Steampunk Chronicles again and loved reading about Jack Dandy even if I think it did not portray him as we know him from the main books. He mentioned his luck way to often and somehow I found it irritating how he thought about his father. We know from the books that he despise him. But it seemed a little bit artificial on those few pages.

Nevertheless: the mentioning of Griffin made my happy and now I want to read the Steampunk Chronicles again... I need so much more reading time!
