Moi aussi, "je suis trop heureux."
Quelle histoire.

4.5 stars, (9/10). Simple yet fun. Dumas is a master at crafting suspenseful, adventurous, and joyful stories. The central simplicity of the plot here is what lets his skill shine. The first few chapters are a special example of this.
My negatives pertain towards the narration of the ending, as well as the believability of the romance.
I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to tackle Dumas, as it’s both a very easy/fun read!

It took me a while to get into this one but utterly fascinated by the end

This is not as good as the Count of Monte Cristo. After struggling through the first 40-50 boring pages of this book, I considered putting it down, when finally the author started moving the story along by writing in the real life brutal murders of two Dutch leaders and brothers, Cornelis and Johan De Witt at the hands of a lynching mob. From there the story unfurled filled with a jealous and evil neighbor, a beautiful and helpful young girl, and falsely accused Cornelis, the fictional godson of Cornelis De Witt. The last 300 pages clipped right along and were typically enjoyable of a Dumas novel.
