This book changed my life. I will admit I did cry at several points and had to set the book down. It is an honest memoir of a boy soldier. An eye opening experience.

good:
- pretty great writing
- vivid descriptions
- fast pacing—never a boring moment

bad:
- abrupt transitions
- lack of detail in certain places
- monotone narration

basically everything about this book is tragic and it contains graphic and gory war scenes and losses of friends and family so proceed with caution.

This was an extremely moving and eye-opening book. I highly recommend to everyone!

Picked this book up to read it a few times over the last couple of years, was finally able to read it.

I began this book expecting a gory, emotional story. That was found but I also found hope, despair, loneliness, and inspiration. I am left deeply moved by Beah's experience and honored he allowed the reader to see the intimate aftermath of war.

Can't find my notes, as if writing a review about a book as this one isn't hard enough as it is. It's a painful and emotional story. One you should read for yourself...
