I didn’t care much for the instant physical attraction angle, but I liked that Ash was so flawed even though his actions were really frustrating at times. His struggles with depression and anxiety felt realistic. Darian’s Essex accent also took some getting used to but it was a fun touch. The side characters weren’t particularly likable though, aside from Darian’s Essex friends. But overall, a nice easy read.

This was simple but cute! Ash is struggling through his depression when he encounters a manic pixie dream boy from Essex, and while it had a very light and comedic tone throughout, I thought the depression was very well-written; Ash’s continued self-destruction is frustrating but justified. And the Essex accent was so much fun to read, but I’m a sucker for accents being written out in books.
I would’ve liked to see some more of Ash’s friend group (except for Niall, I really think he and Ash just shouldn’t be friends) especially considering we never got to see how the wedding went or Amy and Max’s reactions to Ash ditching it. And did Max really cheat on Amy before the wedding with no consequences?? But for a short and sweet romance it does its job, and Alexis Hall’s British wit is always a pleasure to read.

I tore through this. Alexis Hall can be quite hit and miss, but when he hits, he really hits. The prose is consistently compelling, but, though Hall typically struggles with an overly stuffed narrative I couldn’t help but feel this could be longer? The main characters spent more time having sex than anything else, which is valid and Ash’s changing interiority definitely sold the romance but when you look at it analytically, they were apart far longer than they ever did stuff together.

Not as engaging as Hall’s London Calling books — I found the characters flat, the plot somewhat boring, and the narrator too unlikeable.
