Holy. Hades

This book was so hot. Like, so hot

I received this book as an arc from NetGalley and was really excited to finally read it. All I knew was that it was supposed to be a retelling of Hades and Persephone. As a great enthusiast of the greek mythology, I had great expectations, but unfortunately they were not quite fulfilled.

It is a modern retelling with a very clear focus on romance and spice... a lot of spice. I liked the characters and it was entertaining to read. Unfortunately, the plot and the depth of the story were not quite what I had hoped for and in my eyes there is still a lot that could be improved. I had the feeling that the story was mainly about the spice and something was clearly missing.

It is not an earth shattering book tbh but it kept me entertained for a few hours. I would recommend this book if you like spicy romance books, if you are reading this because of the mythology of Hades and Persephone you might be disappointed.

A spicy Persephone and Hades retelling, it was decent, and the spice was moderate. I dont find myself wanting to read the next in the series, and I very heavily doubt I will. The personal connections between the characters were sub-par at best, and I found myself feeling like the writing could've used more....time? Everything felt very rushed and pressed. It's by no means the worst book I've ever read, but it's also not the BEST Persephone and Hades retelling out there. It's worth a read if you enjoy spice, but if you're looking for well established characters with personalities and chemistry, this doesn't have it.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF @ 33%.

i picked this up because i heard this was peak shadow daddy — and while that may be true, that’s literally all it is. not a scrap of plot to be found, just endless f*cking and tension, and while i love endless f*cking and tension, i need a shred of something else to keep me from just kindle searching ‘c*ck’ to read the smut and calling it a day.

this lacked depth, plot, intrigue, or literally any reason to invest in these characters beyond a vested interest in if they’d f*ck in the office with the glass walls unmisted.

if you’re looking for a hades/persephone retelling that’s hot, easy to read, with minimal emotional investment and minimal plot, this might be a good pick! but if you’ve already done scarlett st. clair’s a touch of darkness, you can probably just go ahead and skip this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rose & Star Publishing for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!

As a lover of all things Greek Mythology, this Hades and Persephone modern retelling should have been right up my alley. I was disappointed to find that it was not.

Set during modern times, The Maiden and The Unseen by Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune tells the story of glorified babysitter of the Gods, Hades, and earthly acclimated and humble Persephone. One is over the antics of the Gods and Goddesses on earth needed constant financing whilst the other lives independently from the rest wanting to full assimilate herself to the culture.

It was unfortunate that I DNF’d this book as it had so much potential but the writing was not something that was my cup of tea. I enjoyed the typical HBIC energy of Persephone but to be this Hades fell flat in comparison to other retellings.

Most of what I had read felt similar to a cheesy typical romance novel and for that I was just not very interested.

All in all, I give this book a very regrettable 2 stars for its fun and gumption.

Good writing and a nice start to the retelling of hades and Persephone. I enjoyed it although I felt like the conflict was too contrived in some parts. Very spicy 🌶️

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the ARC copy!

If you are looking for a super spicy, Hades and Persephone retelling, look no further! This is a modern day twist with a boss x employee trope. Such a fun, fast read!
