Booktok brought me here, and I resisted for a long time because I truly do judge a book by its cover and I just cannot stand covers with weird stereotypical romance models on them.

But what a mistake! This (spy? secret agent? hitman?) is not my typical romance genre, but it quickly sucked me in and keep me interested from start to finish. The FMC is a badass, and all four of the men are unique and pretty well developed, which can be an issue with the first book in an RH series.

Fair warning: there's one (good!) spice scene, but you gotta get through 70% of the book before you get there. And it's with only one man, although she does kiss another.

Rolling right into the next book. There's a lot of ground laying in this one, so I'm really excited to see where the next one goes. This is my first read by this author as well, so I'm excited to check out their other work.

For those that it bothers: this was a really lovely and well-formatted ebook. I caught maybe one typo and weird format choice, and the latter may have been my reader. I really would love to own a physical copy but I'm just not convinced I can get over the cover.

The slowed of slow burns. But I have always liked Chance's writing, so on I go.

I was intrigued by the reviews I had seen about this book. When I dove in, I was surprised by the slow burn between the characters. I thought this would dive right in. I love a slow-burn romance. Like, sign me up for some mixed signals, POV changes, and banter that leaves me wanting more for them. I did not get that experience from this book. The slow burn confused me and there was almost too much else going on to when we did get some romance I wasn't sure why this was happening.

I will note that the plot did have some twists and turns. They were predictable but this book is left on a cliffhanger so can I appreciate them withholding information to get me to keep reading.

Another qualm I had was the characters did not particularly speak to me. I didn't care what happened to them to be completely frank. I was left wondering what was going on more than I would like when reading a book that is less than 300 pages.

Overall, I thought this book was somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. I decided since it's a slow burn, I would stick it out for the second book just to see if I am judging too harshly (spoiler, I wasn't).

I’ve had this book on my kindle for a while now. I don’t know why I took so long to read it. This is a slow burn enemies to lovers romance. There are so many questions that I need answers to. Excuse me while I go download the next book.
