I so badly want more of this book. It’s tender, sweet, loving and desperately family oriented. I LOVED it. It’s massive draw back is that it’s just not long enough. I NEED MORE!

I really wanted to like this book. The cover was gorgeous and the synopsis sounded super interesting. While I appreciate the overarching message of this book, combining two cultures, I just thought the delivery wasn’t great. Ever is a very underdeveloped character and not very likable. All I knew about her was that she wanted to break her parents rules and she loved to dance. There wasn’t much more to her.

The love interest in this story was super frustrating. Boy Wonder was an accurate name because this character was too perfect to be remotely realistic.

Overall, way too cheesy for me and the characters weren’t likable or memorable.

Loveboat, Taipei is a book that got me back into reading. It’s fun, thrilling, and romantic. It was an easy read with a beautifully detailed story. I have never fallen in love with characters as quickly as I did while reading Loveboat. Totally recommend for anyone wanting a cute, fun, and fantastic story!

I paused this book for a while thinking that I would get back to it. It didn't happen. This book annoys me so much. Playing around with emotions, how she changed and not for the good. MFC was a likable character, that turned into a very unlikable character.

Read this book on a whim in honor of AAPI month. The vibes reminded me so much of XOXO, Kitty since it's set in a boarding school.  Although this is a YA book, this didn't feel too young to read, which is good. Did not love the "cheating" aspect to the story but it didn't fully ruin the book for me. The one thing I liked most of the book was second generation struggles of doing what you love v. doing what your parents want you to do. And I liked how it didn't end fully on a happy note, but more a realistic note. I did read lots of Asian American YA stories with a similar plot, but I think this book did a great job capturing it. I don't think I'll continue the series to be honest, but I am glad I picked up the book!

FINALLY done with this book and tbh I'm okay with the way it went and ended, but I guess I just expected too much from this book. Even though I liked the writing and the author's attempt at focusing on topics like racism and Asian Parents' expectations and controls, and when I related to them so much as well. Still the way this book just brushes past serious issues like depression and suicide so easily without even stressing over them, and the way they were portrayed, though they didn't focus the MCs but still this could've been so much more. It felt like the author was trying to add everything in a single story and was in a hurry to make everything alright??
And to me, I found myself starting to get more and more frustrated with the main characters, Ever and Rick, and their actions that were a bit too disappointing. The only character I liked was Xavier's and wished he was given more justice in the story. This is why I hate when authors push the whole love triangle agenda way too hard on characters that it only end up making it worse and worse.

And not just that I felt so disconnected throughout the entire half of the book while the story seemed so obvious it didn't stop dragging to the end instead of just getting sooner to the point.

IDK if I've become way too hard on books these days or I've just gotten really bad at picking up books that only end up disappointing me after cause I've heard so many good things about this book and I didn't see anything that went well by this, I guess this book just wasn't for me. So I'm giving this one 3.5

Picked this up for a book club. Not something I would read on my own but had a surprising amount of fun reading it. A perfect Valentine's Day read. Ever has a strong arc of figuring out what she wants in life and who she is.

It's way to long of a book for the gist of the story. It gets good then drags out for a while then gets good then drags out

Main character was surprisingly relatable. I guess deep down, we’re all just eighteen year old Taiwanese American girls.

I have a soft spot for this book because it reminded me of Chinese Youth Camp. I heard a lot about Loveboat! I do think it was odd that Ever was going to Loveboat when her parents were in Fuijian China. Maybe I skimmed over how they are Taiwanese. I do think all the pinyin was odd for Taiwan since we generally learn bopomofo. Also, they used the simplified version of 愛 at points. Maybe that was an accident.

For the plot, I wanted her to be with Xavier because I feel like she had more deep conversations with him and overall, spent more time with him than with Rick? I also really didn’t like Sophie’s revenge plot. It was messed up that she shared Ever’s nude photos & that’s really unforgivable. She also lied to Ever about Xavier’s gifts and her relationship with him. Absolutely bananas that the resolution was Ever saying she was wrong too. It wasn’t the same at all.

I feel this book was way too dramatic. Jenna’s depression made Rick stay with her until he realized he loved Ever. But, he’s a “good guy” because he just almost kissed her not actually kiss her?! Also, the car accident with her dad before she performs bo staff in the talent show on basically a sprained ankle and dislocated shoulder was ridiculous.

I do love how Ever finds herself and focuses on what she wants in life rather than doing what her parents want or doing the complete opposite. I also appreciate and can relate to rejecting your Asian side growing up in the United States then visiting Taiwan and falling in love with that Asian side of yourself. Also, experiencing life as a majority visually over a minority.
