It would have been 4 but the break up thing threw me off …

Accidental audio reread. This was in the audible plus catalogue and I’ve read and enjoyed books by Teagan Hunter before, so I started listening. The meet-cute sounded oddly familiar, come to find out I’ve read it before. I enjoyed this one, though a little less than the previous time. I couldn’t really get behind the hero’s reasoning for keeping his identity hidden, nor the heroine’s reasoning for keeping the hero at a distance. The audio was good, but one thing that really annoyed me was that the female narrator pronounced asterix (*) as asterick during texting scenes. It really grated and took me out if the story. Other than that the audio was enjoyable.

The story was fine. Could even have been enjoyable. Except for the annoying fmc. She was so unintentionally juvenile that I’m a bit embarrassed that she was written by a woman.. her interpretations of things are usually unreasonable, and definitely lack nuance. Her lack of game was painful (she sounded like a 12 year old on msn from back in the day). And her amazing best friend is just a bad person who happens to be nice to her. She literally says (among other concerning things) that online dating is better because you can just ghost people you don’t like?? The author has clearly confused interesting hobbies/ careers for character depth. It was a shame, because the premise and the mmc had the makings of a very cute romance.
