Puck Shy is a story of Collin and Harper, two people who seemingly have nothing in common but that actually do. They are both big fans of horror movies, Harper is even making a business out of it.
They meet on a road and share a ride to the nearest city. They talk, they laugh, they have a moment but they never exchanged numbers. Days later Collin finds her on a dating app but he doesn’t tell her who he is.
In fact, even on their ride, he doesn’t tell her he’s a hockey player and she doesn’t even know that either. He just loves that he can be himself with her without having to pretend.
After exchanging texts through the dating app she soon finds out his real identity and starts dating him for real.
What I was missing in this book is her sharing her workplace with him. For no reason at all, the door to her station (she worked from her apartment) always stayed locked during his visit and I felt that she’s holding back. I didn’t understand why because he liked her and he liked what she was doing but ughhh, I wish she just opened that door and opened her heart a little bit more. Also, the conversation about her dad dying was just kind of thrown there without really talking deeply about the matter.

Collin, a professional hockey player, is having a rough time. His team has just lost the cup and he is arrested after getting in a bar fight. Then he meets Harper. Things were just supposed to be casual...
This was a pretty standard hockey romance. He is cocky, she is quirky and "not like other girls". Their banter was cute, but I didn't really connect with either of the characters. They both had their reasons for wanting to keep it casual, but her excuse for pushing him away was incredibly lame. She is lumping all men into one stereotype, which is unfair.
I did really like Ryan. I may read her book because I really did enjoy her character.
Tropes: hockey, slow burn
