I have read every book in this series and enjoy them. They are a great lighter read after heavier reads, and catching up with Hannah and everyone in Lake Eden is like catching up with old friends.

This latest installment wasn’t quite as good as the others. I think it just missed the usual characters playing a bigger role in the story.

Sonny Bowman is a TV host found dead during a fishing competition. There are many suspects as there is way more to Sonny’s past than meets the eye. Hannah, who is helping with the baking for the competitors finds herself once again involved in solving the mystery.

The mystery was okay. There was a couple of places where there is no way the characters could have known what they claimed to know. I had trouble getting past that. In the end, the bad guy was not much of a surprise, and the final scene with the bad guy was suspenseful enough.

I missed Michelle, Andrea’s daughters, and the rest of the family we are so used to getting time with in each novel.

This will not stop me from reading the next in the series as I am convinced we will eventually see who Hannah chooses between Norman and MIke. Speaking of MIke, that ending was a little crazy and so I definitely have to read the next one.

2.5⭐️, but I really only keep reading these because the early ones were good and I like the characters. This one practically could have been a short story...

Hard to finish. Felt like each chapter was written by a different person. There was conflicting facts from chapter to chapter. Parts of the story didn't make sense. This series has been around for years but the characters have gone backwards in development. I think this will be the last of the series for me.

I want to love this series, and keep reading hoping for a better outcome. This has been yet another stressful journey. There were random tangents all throughout the book. The weirdest being a tale by Doc that seemed to make it sound like as long as you were a functional alcoholic, it is ok, not to mention the weirdness of college aged Doc getting a peek at the guys work records? How/what in the world?

There were major continuity issues all throughout the story. On page 114 (kindle version) there was an entire exchange between Hannah and Normal with Mike where Hannah asking if she could tell the owners (Dick and Sally) about the murder victim. Then on page 117 there is an exchange between Hannah and Norman giving each other looks because they had forgotten to ask Mike if they were allowed to say anything.
On 147 one of the characters references the cause of death which should should not have known. Well, she must bet the killer! Nope, just another continuity problem.

Then on page 177 after a long chat in their hotel room, Hannah and her sister are in the kitchen preparing for the day, but it is mentioned that Hannah is putting on her shoes. Did she walk downstairs barefoot and then decide to put her shoes on in the kitchen?

I am also over the way Hannah and everyone treats Andrea like she is completely inept. Yes, she may not be the baker that Hannah is, but treating her like a child and talking down to her is just so wrong.

I will say that I appreciate that they have moved on from the “Rational mind” stuff that was in the last few books and I am beyond grateful.

As an avid fan of the first half of this series, I am trying to stick it out and hope things get better, but whoever is editing these books really need to step up their game. I used to wait for the day that they came out and would at the book store that day to pick up my copy. I have now moved to just putting my name on the waiting list at the library and hoping things will finally turn around and Hannah will get her groove back.
