What the hell fam?! I don’t read cheesy rom com novels for them to end with no resolution. It’s my opinion that the best kind of romance stories only need one book to be told because I can’t keep caring for much longer! So how dare you make me like a story so much to have it end with me being kissed off. Yeah I’m totally pissed. I don’t want to devote another 7 hours cause I stayed up late and I thought I would go to bed happy. But nooooooo the author had to drag it out. It got a good rating cause the style and writing were pretty enjoyable and I like the surfing topic. But come on.

Solid 4 stars!

Although it took me about 1-2 days to read this, it felt like longer.

I wasn't expecting this to be told in a podcast format and it was quite interesting to read it.

Sidenote: I wouldn't be mad at a Jordy Fuller spin-off. *wink wink* *nudge nudge*

DNF - made it almost halfway through. The format of the story - a journalist reading her articles and telling the story through a podcast format did not work for me because it would not be a podcast I would listen to. She was a whiny, complainer and after the great beginning with her cheating ex, I felt let down. I didn’t like her and the love interest wasn’t hardly talked about - it was all her.

I listened to this one. It was ok. Took a bit to draw me in but then I got into it. The voice actor was great. Mostly predictable but not fully.

I have listened to a TON of Max Monroe books this year and I love this writing duo's great characters and clever stories. They're usually super swoony and lol-funny. I was excited about the premise of this duet. And for the most part, I really liked the story and the characters.

Lucky is plucky. (Sorry, I didn't mean to rhyme.) She's hard-working and determined. But, unlucky in love. She takes a work trip that really begins to look a little like an early mid-life crisis/exploration of self-discovery. I think I really like Ollie as a character, but the one-sided delivery of the story only from Lucky's point of view makes it hard to know for sure.

Here's my issue and the things I didn't like. The book is set up to be delivered like a podcast. And, honestly, I don't know why. I was so distracted by the fact that the way a great author builds scenes is by adding details, but those details are very seldom things that you would actually say out loud. So, it just seemed awkward to think of this as a podcast. And, don't even get me started on the sex scene. They tried to address it head on, but I was bothered by an explicit description of intimate sex by one of the participants in a pod cast. It just didn't seem to fit with the story or Lucky's character.

Lucky writes a series of Dear Ex-Boyfriend letters that really move the plot along and help with her character development. I love them and I feel like they would have been plot device enough without the podcast. Combine those two issues with the exotic travel and there was just a little too much going on.

Even with the things that bothered me about the story, I'm still invested in the characters. I want to know what happens next and I will definitely be buying book #2 in this duet. I'm hoping for a little more humor and a little less angst from Ollie's perspective when it releases tomorrow. And, I will be one-clicking it now so it arrives soon!

I'm anxious to know how the story ends and I think that's the highest praise I can give to a two-part story! Bring on the hunky Aussie bloke!

An advance copy of this book was received from the author. Receipt of this copy did not impact the content or independence of this review. BFF Book Blog also uses a set of icon ratings. This book received additional icons for: angst, butterflies, character development, supporting characters, tension and cliff hanger!

The story is told in a podcast format. Clever, but a little cringy. Seriously? You don't want to hold any of these details back, Lucky?

Ollie and Lucky. Former pro surfer, CEO of a surf company (?), and big brother to Allie, Lucky's best friend. Writer at a Buzzfeed-type site, dater of jerks and on a man hiatus. She travels down to AUS to report on a surfing tour, sponsored by Ollie's company. Australia to Bali to South Africa to exotic surfing locales galore to. Somewhere along the way, she falls in love with him.

She might have forgotten to mention her dead mom and her commitment/abandonment issues. He might have forgot to mention that he was once engaged.

Conflict/miscommunication/lack of communication and Lucky leaves Ollie in Huntington Beach, fleeing back to NY. He chases after her, but it's too late... until we get to Part II.

This was surprisingly better than I expected!

I love the voice that reads it.

The story was hilarious, relatable, and heartbreaking. I really enjoyed Lucky as a character. Ollie just sounds like the quintessential Aussie but not dumb surfer boy vibes (I pictured Jacob Elordi). I love that there's lots of traveling in the book. I felt like I was there.

I am currently awaiting the next book! I hope it ends how I'm hoping!

Abrupt ending alert. Especially if you read these kinds of books for the HEA warm fuzzies. Not that it ended tragicly it just ended abruptly and with minimal resolution.
I "read" this on audio and I don't recommend it in that format. It's supposed to be listened to like a podcast but it is very stiff and awkward. Theres a lot of fake/forced laughing that gets really annoying fast.

Lucky is unlucky in love. After a series of failed relationships, she's determined to shot falling for jerks, and find someone worthy of her awesomeness.

She's thrown a major wrench in her plan when she's assigned to follow a surfing competition and write about the sport from the view of someone who knows nothing about it. Volunteered by her co-worker and friend Allie, Lucky packs one too many bags and is off to the other side of the world to follow the Professional Surfing League and report from her novice view some human interest pieces.

Only one problem: the person picking her up from the airport and part of the tour is none other than Allie's surf legend, and all around hottie king of the jerks Ollie.

What's interesting about this book is that it's told from the perspective of the heroine through a podcast narrative, complete with the flashbacks and sighs/emotions while retelling her story. This one ends differently than you would expect - no huge cliffhanger, no resolution, but since this is a duet, I'm sure we're going to find more when the second book, and Ollie's version, is released shortly.

It's been a while since I've read a book that surprised me with the delivery style and the overall story - and I'm waiting for the second in this series to see what Max Monroe delivers. So far, each one of their books has been a fav of mine, so I expect nothing less than greatness. They can live up to it thought...amIright?
