Very good
It's so strange. I loved it.
The maths etc was a lot to get my head around, but the story and themes were great. It's VERY apparent where Orwell got the inspiration for 1984 from.
Foundational dystopian fiction. It's a "your author's favourite author" type book.
When the version you're listening to has a foreword from Margaret Atwood, and essays about it written by George Orwell and Ursula K. Le Guin, you know you're about to experience something great.

Found the plot kind of hard to follow, undoubtedly our narrator is unreliable and we are never quite sure who we should trust. Nevertheless, I understand why it's classified as the first modern dystopia and I greatly enjoyed the satirical elements in it. Probably something I would reread again at some stage, just to get a better idea of the plot. Definitely did not expect that ending.

This book is considered a precursor to the totalitarian dystopian literature and there are similarities that can be drawn between this and 1984 and Brave New World. I was hoping to like this a bit more than I did. The language is flowery and pacing is haphazard so that you tend to miss out on some things. The curiosity and intensity builds up towards the end to a somewhat expected outcome ( one of the many possible outcomes settings, especially if you have read 1984)

James selected this book for me because of my love for "A Brave New World" and I wasn't disappointed in this choice.
I felt like the introduction gave away a lot of the key plot points in relation to the characters. Given how slowly paced it felt and where you could see it going, I had increasingly little motivation to pick it up again. Having read 1984, you can see the influences WE had, but I didn’t have much motivation to get much further with it
before all these others, yevgeny was out here shouting revolutions are infinite, nature is revolutionary & revolution-worthy, women are revolutionaries AND sexy! we revolt as simps!! a green flag book for ursula to pick as her fav. i too am afraid of imaginary numbers sir D-503 🫡
