Wow I really loved this book.
The Crows protect the entire country by helping prevent the spread of the plague and in return they are hunted down and spat on and beaten and…..just absolutely horrible things happen to them. And it’s not like they’re bad people either. They abhor stealing and only ask for what can be given in payment. I just don’t get it.
Wow I really loved this book.

Kind of a mixed bag but overall pretty enjoyable

I LOVED THIS BOOK. I loved it so so much it felt at times as if it had been written specifically for me. I kept putting the book down because I didn’t want this masterpiece of a story to end. Utterly, utterly fantastic!
Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!
Yeah. New favorite. I needed the next one yesterday and now I have to wait. But what an amazing, interesting world. Brutal, heartbreaking, and a bittersweet ending that had me both happy, angry, uneasy, and desperate for more. I can’t wait to see more of everything.

This book started out really solid, but I was pretty sure it was going to be a respectable 4 star read. However, the way the story unfolded and the way the heroine gets to let loose her rage really worked for me--hence the fifth star! The world-building is well done, without any info-dumping. Excellent read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. This one took me FOREVER to get through - I wasn’t immediately drawn into the world. So basically, in this world there are all these different castes; Crows are the lowest. They come in to burn the bodies of those who die by a plague. Fie is a teenage Crow who is in line to be a chief. When her group is summoned to the royal palace for the bodies of the prince and his body double, she gets into more than she bargained for. This one has a super complex world and would be good for readers in grades 9+.
“Hate the boys or no, Fie had to admit that extorting royalty had its sunny side.”
I didn’t know I needed a fantasy with plague doctor inspiration before I read this one.
What I liked:
From page 1 we are dropped right into this magical world, and the action did not let up for the entire book. I was hooked on this, not wanting to put it down at all.
The characters are fantastic. From our main characters to the supporting ones, I love them all.
What didn’t work for me:
I didn’t really care about the romance much, I was never truly invested in our couple. That may change with book 2, but for now, I couldn’t care less if they are together or not.
