Great First Novel

I DEVOURED Avery's first novel. I could not put it down and had to immediately read the next book. You'll absolutely LUV this book!

buenísimo todo, amo los silly little romances pero este tienes temas 1 poko más serios BUT !! sigue siendo muy xulo tkm mis niños

This was pretty mid. I liked the FMC, but the MMC lacked a lot for me and the way he texted gave me the ick.

Dexter and Laine are the spark that lights a forest fire. This book is HOT, angsty, and full of wonderful side characters. I mean I love a large family in books, there's nothing better (and it's not always blood that makes a family) I loved this book from page 1 to the end. I could barely put it down, and I can't wait to dive into the rest of the gang. This was my first Avery book, but I'm hooked and will be a reader for life now!

This book got me out of a reading slump so I will always love it for that. It was easy to fall into the heart of this story. Lanie learning to love herself was beautiful. I loved how quickly Dex realized how special she was. The kids are adorable, especially Tate. I enjoyed how the author took the time to world build for other characters in the series, which I am now looking forward to reading. There were some predictable, cheesy moments but it left me with a smile on my face.

Influenced by booktok but I only finished the book for the sake of it, it was slow starting and the picked up and I really enjoyed it but then it fell off again and I had over 100 pages left and didn't want to read it anymore, I pushed through just so it wasn't on my reading list anymore. Also seemed like Lanie only cared about Tate and barely even mentioned the twin girls- really annoyed me because I felt like the book could have been much better if they were included as much as Dex's friends were. Its a good book but I wouldn't recommend reading it unless you have absolutely nothing else to do.

Dexter Cross lost his father to a drunk driver. Then his wife, the mother of his 4 year old son and newly pregnant with twins, decided motherhood wasn't for her and she left him, allowing him to keep the girls after they were born. He needs a nanny but he's having a hard time finding one who'll stay.

Laney Heart needs a break. She is mostly physically recovered from a traumatic attack but it will take time for her heart and soul to catch up. Her friend Jules decides Laney needs to get away from Vermont so finds her an ad for a nanny position in North Carolina.

Dex's son needs Laney, as do his young daughters. As Dex gets to know her better, he starts to think he needs her too.

I'm pretty sure this is Avery's first book, and it's pretty well written with a captivating story about learning to live and love again - as well as having a cast of characters who you wish were your friends as well as found family. This is my 2nd, maybe 3rd time reading, first time reviewing. One of my favorite series.

4.5 stars I am OBSESSED! No spoilers, let’s get into it.

The plot - this is a workplace, forbidden romance (nanny X boss), single dad, forced proximity, slow burn ANGST FEST. Some pretty deep shit in this one so CHECK YA FUCKIN TRIGGERS PEOPLE. Deep shit is going on in here. Smut was sweet, but only
2/5 on the spice scale really. Definitely endearing, it was sweet but angsty. It is a HEA, in a series of interconnected standalones. Very small town vibes, very angsty, found family vibes just all the good shit. I wish there was more around the FMC’s mother and the MMC’s ex, because they seemed like decent plot points but it’s not the end of the world.

The MC - Lanie is our traumatised FMC and boyyyyy does she fit that category. I think she’s a bit… co dependent on her friends and family, it gave “12 year old in a 22 year old’s body” but easy enough to overlook.

The male counterpart - who wouldn’t love Dex? Single dad to 3 adorable kids, a genuinely psycho ex wife, and all the grumpy he falls first vibes you could ask for!
