For some reason, I had a completely and utterly different expectation of this book. I thought it was going to be a bit of an adventure novel - I think the title, and how one of the descriptions called it "swash-buckling" . Still ,despite this, I had a marvelous time. It was light-hearted and fun, and makes me think I should check out more from the genre.

Ya know what

there may have been just two short kisses in this book - and at the very end

but I enjoyed it. I got pleasantly swept up in this fun and chaotic at times slooooowwwee burn.

Kitty is so fun, James is so excellent, and the plot was deftly handled — there was something of a Grand Sophy crossed with Frederica dynamic here, but rooted in a very real financial practicality that I appreciated. The romance was extremely earned and handled very satisfactorily :)
