At the start, I was glad Luce decided to travel through time to try to understand why the love between her and Daniel was so strong. In the first 2 books, it felt like they were together because they ought to be. "Because" was the reason.
I enjoyed getting a glimpse of their other lifetimes together. However, the whole plot of the series felt less convincing when they see that Daniel falls in love with her every lifetime, even when she has a horrible personality. What does this say about him?

This is a continuation of torment. I really enjoy the story line and the characters, but this book was more about Luce and Daniel's history and not much advances in the current time period, which is what I was hoping for. My full review is on the blog. http://www.booknerdsacrossamerica.com/2012/04/passion-by-lauren-kate.html
So far this is my favorite book out of the series. I loved looking at Luce's past lives. It was so interesting going back in time and seeing her past selves fall in love with Daniel. It was also cool to see how it all worked. Like cleaving and becoming one with whatever past self it was. Then seeing her from that perspective. I also liked that all of her past lives were different from her because they grew up in a different environment with different parents. But the soul was the same. If this was real I think this would be how it worked. I also like that she was soul mates with Daniel and that's what connected them. I loved seeing soul mates in this way. It's another deep discussion that this book has brought up. My favorite part was honestly being in all these historical times. Like the globe and Shakespeare, the mayons and their sacrificing, being at war, and being a slave. It was so fascinating. I have never seen anything like this in a book before. I loved seeing more of what Daniel and Luce had to go through. Daniel was so tormented by her deaths that he killed himself. It was heartbreaking because it would never work because he was an angel. But he would lay broken for weeks. Or sleep for days. It was interesting finding out why Luce was dying. I don't completely understand it though. I guess she dies when she realizes Daniels decision to not choose heaven or hell. But I don't get how she realizes it. Especially when there's nothing giving a hint towards that. Also why does she typically realize it when they make out? I loved Bill. He was funny and I loved his kind of friendship with Luce. I realize it's all fake and he was really Satan but I still liked him. He was there for her and he was a great help. I know it was all manipulative though. As for Daniels side of the story, my favorite part was when he did angel things in the past. Like see Cam and Lillith together. Seeing meetings. Also going to the voting of heaven or hell. I liked how it all tied together and it turned out Daniel was supposed to be the one to fix the past and change the curse. I loved that meeting and seeing Satan get all upset. I also liked hearing the angels vote. Anyway this was an excellent book and I'm excited for the next one.
I felt a bit ho-hum about the first two books in the series, but I liked them enough to keep going. I'm glad I did. It's funny, some of the things that bothered me about the later Immortals books ([b:Night Star|7739934|Night Star (The Immortals, #5)|Alyson Noel|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1277919616s/7739934.jpg|10545964] and [b:Everlasting|9395215|Everlasting (The Immortals, #6)|Alyson Noel|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1297803240s/9395215.jpg|14278985]) actually seemed to work here. There was suddenly a lot of time traveling, but since the process had already been established, it didn't feel very sudden. Her past lives weren't so detailed that it got too complicated or inaccurate, but they were detailed enough that they all had a different feel. I liked that she had a quest, a goal, a mission, and that she struck out on her own to get to the root of her love for Daniel. Unlike most YAF girlies, she questioned her love instead of jumping into it blindly. (Sure, it took three books, but it was refreshing nonetheless.) Then she finds herself in the company of a miniature gargoyle with a croaky voice and an amusing personality named "Bill," and he was a fabulous addition to her journey.
I'm not sure whether the plot actually made that much sense in terms of the rest of the story, because I honestly can't remember the details of the first two books that well. There was enough filled in that I could appreciate the story on its own, but I still feel like Luce and her mission had greater importance than just saving Daniel from an eternity of losing her. A better memory on my part would probably have helped me appreciate this book more. Now I've gone from feeling ho-hum about the series to really looking forward to [b:Rapture|9223036|Rapture (Fallen, #4)|Lauren Kate|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nocover-60x80.jpg|14103064]. Another 5 star rating reduced to 3 once I reread it 6 years later... How sad.
That was a fun read but I got a lot to say still…. Luce is so whiny and the whole premise that they love each-other no matter the personality and what not is kinda bs…. I still think she should be with cam or miles cause Daniel still hasn’t done shit for Luce other than find her time and time again. Idk I’m just bored of them. I’m also tired of the vagueness of everything… I’m glad we finally got answers for why Luce is important and can now live longer but jeez it’s still confusing and drawn out.
i reread this series at least once a year. Brings me back to high school <3
I loved book one as a pre-teen but then years later I'm seriously struggling with this series
Nevertheless I'm going to finish it out of sheer spite at this point because I don't want to "waste" a purchase

It took me N I N E B L O O D Y M O N T H S to get through this book. I picked it up, made it halfway through, and then put it down until I forced myself to pick it up again. Had been meaning to finish reading this but every time I contemplated picking it up again... UGH.
I feel like I learned absolutely nothing from reading this. How did it expand the plot? What was the point?
It's a shame that loved the first book in the series, but the rest are just steadily getting worse and worse. I am not sure how I am going to make it through the rest.
