Wow

So happy I’ve discovered this author, this was next level and different - so different to the usual fantasy/romance books I read. Love Malachi and his troops and Ava is going to be a force to be reckoned with I’m sure!

How did I miss this series before?!

What a fantastic world to be dropped into. I’m absolutely loving the world building and story from Elizabeth Hunter. I cannot wait to see where we go from here.
adventurous emotional mysterious sad medium-paced

The cosmology here troubles me, but it's so deftly written I have a hard time getting too up in arms.

This is the first book in a series so be prepared to read the next book right away. The Scribe ends on a cliff hanger and you will want to see what comes next. Loved the main male character so much.

I love this book and Elizabeth Hunter's writing.

Malachi is an Irin warrior, also called a Scribe. Irin tattoo spells into their skin with words
He and his fellow Scribes fight the Gregori. Scribes and Gregori have the same basic origins, from fallen angels, but the Scribes are from angels who fell and then repented and the Gregori are from the angels who fell and didn't. The Gregori spend their time seducing human women for fun and usually killing them.

The Irin went through a terrible battle where the Gregori killed off most of the Irina, the females who heal through song. Since then the Irina have hidden themselves away.

Ava hears voices all the time. She's tried all the drugs to try and quiet the voices, but she believes she is nuts and so does everyone else. Now she travels alone as a photographer, and luckily she has a ton of money so she can stay in nice places. But the voices all speak the same language, which she doesn't.

When they meet, it becomes apparent to Malachi and his fellow Irin that Ava is an Irina, the first they've seen in centuries. And she isn't from a family of Irina so theyre confused as to how it is possible. And yet she lives.

Malachi & Ava are drawn together. The romance and sexy parts are pretty hot, but it's all done tastefully. They have to figure out how Ava came to be and why the Gregori want to capture her.

WOW!

I don’t usually read paranormal or fantasy. But this series was highly recommended to me by a lot of people. So I gave it a chance. I am not disappointed!!! It is amazing!!! Read this right now! It’s so good! It grabbed me from chapter 1, the mystery, intrigue, romance, suspense - this book has it all! Stop what you’re doing and read this book right now!!!

Great first book

Wow I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up. I loved it. The author had you feeling you were right there. I loved the characters and the storyline was amazing. I can't wait to see where this takes you.

i have been reluctant to pick this book up despite it being in my to read list and I was right to be apprehensive. I’ve read other series by Elizabeth Hunter and I remember finishing the but not really feeling great about what I read despite pretty decent writing and I have the same feeling again. I think one of the biggest issues with this series lies in how gendered the premise for the world building is. Male Irin have one set of powers and female another, their powers are completed through mating. Females are rare and cherished due to a previous genocide. Men are warriors and scholars , women are healer and diplomats, though they can fight if necessary, they are generally sequestered away. The entire premise lacks even possibility of gay or trans characters, which is a bit galling. It feels like a low fantasy version of Tairen’s Soul and just feels uncomfortable.

Furthermore you have a good race and an evil race so stereotypically
Spoilerthis is going to be one of those, not all evil are actually evil and not all good are actually good. The MC is probably going to be some kind of bridge between the 2 due to some strange shared ancestry no doubt
. I just wish every aspect of this book didn’t feel like it was recycled from somewhere else

The only reason it got 3 stars is because, the writing is decent, it’s not US or UK centric and the characters did learn how to communicate with each other over the course of the book. But the premise is just uncomfortable

I liked the storyline premise. it's the kind of story you know what will happen but i still like it. I'll read the next one.

When I book puts you through the grinder ... This book. Seriously. I don’t even no what time say except more Malachi please!!
