What the hell! This was super sweet! I didn't expect to like this book this much. It didn't have any unnecessary drama and that is ALWAYS very appreciated. The main and secondary characters were amazing. Sometimes at the middle of these books the plot can get dull or boring because it's the part when everything it's in balance but I didn't find that here. Emerson's friends made up for that and Alex's job and ambition helped too! It's not the best book I've ever read but I really enjoyed it. The writing was very enjoyable and I laughed a lot. There was only one little thing that rubbed me the wrong and that was the way the conflict was resolved. It wasn't the worst but it certainly could've been way better than it was. Anyways, I liked this world very much and I can't wait to get to know better the other guys.

Just what I needed today.

Escapism.

Nothing too serious but enough drama to keep you engaged.

Looking forward to reading more from this series.

Emerson and Alex were fun. Yes, there was a lot going on with him trying to branch out on his own and her trying to keep her job/transition to a permanent job at a Chicago law firm. And, with him starting his business with his friends, and messing up her sleep, and his parents and their expectations.

But, even with all of that creeping in, Emerson and Alex were fun. I smiled, I laughed, I cringed at the meet cute, and the second one where, well, the attractive man is in absolutely the wrong place for him to stay fantasy material...which is perfect, as he needs to be a fake date...but he's too attractive to stay fake. Lost yet? Alex is a bit too, and this adds to her charm. She is so focused on making sure that she in in the right place in her career that she sort of stops noticing all of the other things in life, until they are locked in a room with her, or announced over a loudspeaker.

Read it, that will make sense. And, you will enjoy it.

I did, and I recommend this title.

So this was a fun quick read, which I really enjoyed. But as with pretty much all romance books this one had the inevitable break up and make up, which is fine but i wish they'd talked more - which theu clearly needed to do.

There were a few grammatical errors and at one point the wrong name was used which is really annoying but overall it was alright.

I was a littke miffed that the epilogue wasn't even about Alex and Emmerson, i was hoping for some father and son bonding time as well as mother-in-law and daughter-in-law bonding... Instead it was about Kelsey... Which i would have preferred to be a sneak previous of the next book... Not the epilogue... Because that makes no sense to me 🤔

I honestly do not have much to say about this one. It was a cute read without a lot of angst or drama. The writing was great. The pace (for the most part) was good. The plot was humorous and sweet. It had some excellent secondary characters (although, I am not 100% sure I care to read Chase's book as I am a little over the whole "player who sleeps with everything" type of hero). Both of the main characters were very likable, and the ending was a sweet HFN.

My only issue with it was the big drama near the end and how it was resolved. I was annoyed beyond belief that Alex went hunting down Emerson, and beyond annoyed that SHE felt the need to apologize for his a$$hole behavior. She didn't do ANYTHING wrong. Not to mention it took him TWO WEEKS to get his head out of his a$$ and Alex took him back with ZERO grovel after he basically implied she was a whore!! Yea, no, that whole debacle fell short for me which in turn had me lowering my rating. C'est la vie...

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Emerson and Alex first meet in a drugstore. She’s buying some personal items and of course the hot guy (aka Emerson) ends up in line behind her. And of course the cashier has to do a price check for her personal hygiene items. But then things get even better when she goes to the ATM and so does the hot guy. And then the power goes out, trapping them both inside. Talk about a meet cute.

The two manage to pass the time and it’s clear that they are attracted to each other, but Alex feels as though her life is it chaotic for a relationship. So they leave the ATM thinking that they will most likely never see each other again. Cut to the next morning when Alex is woken up at a very early hour but construction in her building. When she inquires about how long she will have to put up with the noise she is surprised to find Emerson. Turns out he and his friends are opening a bar in the space below her apartment.

It isn’t long before Alex is spending time at the bar (which isn’t even open yet) and falls into an easy relationship with Emerson. The sexual tension between the two of them was ridiculous and everyone around them could feel it as well. Alex is determined to keep things platonic but Emerson has other ideas. When Alex brings him to a work event that is catalyst that propels them to being way more than friends.

I really enjoyed this book. Emerson was a giant sweetheart and he was such a good match for Alex. The both understood that their jobs came first and they made a point of finding time to be with the other person. Unfortunate for Alex, Emerson has some hang ups when it comes to his family and he allows that to get in the way of him being truly happy.

This is a great start to what seems to be a fun series. We meet all of Emerson’s friends in this book and I can’t wait to get their stories. I already have my favorite of the crew and I have a feeling I know where his story is going. At least that’s where I hope it will go.

Alex is smitten by her sexy new downstairs neighbour, Emerson. Emerson is a Hemsworth-a-like who has just bought a bar, the titular Rascals, with his four friends. Alex is in the running for a high profile position at the law firm where she works, and unbeknownst to her, having Emerson on her arm would put her in the lead for that position given his family's reputation as one of the wealthiest and most successful in Chicago.

This was marketed as a fauxmance on Bookbub, which is what attracted me to it, but in reality this one isn't the slow burn I've come to expect from a fake relationship. The two get it on fairly fast, and it's pretty graphic. The story is mostly told from Alex's POV, with the odd chapter from Emerson thrown in (I'm grateful for this purely for the sentence "I positioned myself at her entrance", which made me think of one of the Queen's Beefeaters and gave me a much needed laugh).

It was fine, the chemistry was fine, but I like a little more build-up and tension personally. I love the idea of the bar being run by a group of friends and every friend getting their own novel, I also liked that Alex was a lawyer and we saw some of a court case that was happening.

This was free on BookBub.
