Ahhh this is what Little Men should have been!! This felt like home in a way that its former did not!

In this we actually get to experience the original March family again, as well as the new. I won't say that I liked all of the decisions and pairings but I think L.M.Alcott had a natural perversity and enjoyed playing with her readers. This did have some more bitter undertones that her earlier work didn't, but age does that to you, so she is forgiven. Despite some of Jo's and Megs decisions and statements being uncharacteristically mean to certain members of the flock.

It was also brilliant to return to Alcott's particular brand of feminism that felt lacking in good wives and little men. However, the moral teachings of the book are just too much for me at times - within all of her works. Dan's ending is evidence of this - forgiveness is preached but he is so tainted by one sin that he is irredeemable in the eyes of everyone who claims to love him....Very hypocritical. (I am clearly still annoyed by Dan's storyline)

Although it felt somewhat rushed as there is so many characters to get through it was lovely to see what became of them. Alcotts outstanding ability as a writer lies in her characterisation - I am very sad to leave these behind. The ending was blunt and harsh but at least we weren't left wondering.

I believe we see more of Alcott herself in this work, she seemed tired of hiding behind her angelic characters by this point.

I would recommend.

I liked this book! It was very emotional and it didn’t necessarily have a happy ending but I didn’t really care! Not only did I like dans story line but I also liked emils and nans.

Over all I liked this book!

There are things I liked and things I didn't. Rating this book is really just rating the ending to the stories I already knew. I liked Dan's story but I was pretty upset with Stuffy's and some of the others. However, it is important to take off the 2021 glasses when reading these books. While she did treat her only obese character as a gluttonous monster with no purpose but comedy, she did treat Dan like a person. I loved the commentary and the womens rights movements and educational reform and other little tidbits.

5⭐️ kindle via library. Read aloud w our girls 18/13 and both gave it 5⭐️ as well. Just a delightful reading experience….well crafted sentences, beautiful life lessons and a glimpse into lives lived pouring into others with both realistic expectations and hopeful desires for them.

Ten years after we left Jo and her boys at Plumfield at the end of Little Men we return to find out what happened to them all as they grew up. Most of them aren't terribly surprising, but it was still great fun and I couldn't help but find myself getting wrapped up in the tales. There's one story line I don't agree with at all, but on the whole it was very enjoyable.

I love this book for the closure to the characters. I love this book for the ending comments about "the earthquake". I care so much about many of these characters. But it loses points for the constant preaching and over-done women's rights sections. For the time period it was written in, it was probably great. For me it is so heavy handed.
However I love Rob & Teddy. I love Daisy & Demi. I love Nat & Dan. I adore Tommy Bangs. Just so many great side stories to make it worth rereading every so often!
