Even though I was confused quite frequently while reading this book, I've decided to rate it four stars. I found the plot developments interesting and I approved of how a certain issue was resolved. Hopefully I will find the next book in the series less confusing.

A second book better than the first one in my opinion =)
While Lily and others are still recovering from their clash with "Her", Patrick Harlowe broods over his revenge and with the help of the staff and Her, he gets ready to serve Lily up to Her. Unfortunately, nothing goes as planned with the magic: Rule and Lily end up in Dis accompanied by a demon and a herd of dragons ... while Cullen, Cynna and another Lily are trying to find them.
I enjoyed this book that was rich in adventure and twists. We have learned a little more about the world of lupi but also about all the nuances of magic which are really interesting !! I particularly liked the appearance of Sam and the dragons but also Gan which/who is pretty funny =) The "two Lily" stuff was a little tricky at first but eventually I found it rather clever, interesting and touching at last.
I still have a little trouble with the relationship between Rule and Lily : I think it's going on too fast and that it's somewhat artificial. I understand that is because of their mate bond but I'm struggling to get used to it, especially since Lily (despite her strong character) doesn't seem to offer some real resistance and Rule doesn't even bother to try to understand her struggles ... Well, the end was a bit better concerning this "Chosen-but-real-love?" stuff so I wait to see how it will evolve.
However, the main reason that made me like this book is the presence of Cynna and Cullen =) Cynna has humor, she's somewhat a badass and I can't wait to see how her relationship with Cullen will evolve (since she will soon be part of Nikolai) but in the meantime, I'm already a fan ><
In short, a book to read and I bury myself without waiting in the next book =)

This series and the characters slowly sneak up on you and claim you as their's. It is like a slow fire that smolder. After the first book I thought it to be a nice book and nice writing. But I was not invested in the characters. Now I think this series might become one of my favourites. The characters still miss some depth and layers, but I'm sure it will unfold in the coming books - just as the world building has been unfolding. And I do so much like the dragons!

If the Lupi, gnomes, a sourcerer, and a sensitive werent enough for you, Mortal Danger should take care of that. In the second book in this series, Wilks added an annoying demon, who does grow on you. She also adds a Finder, dragons and many other not so friendly demons. Rule and Lily are still trying to figure out the mate bond, as well as find Harlowe and the staff. Cullen plays a much larger role, and I hope Wilks continues to show us more of his character. I would like to learn more about Rule and the Lupi, alot about them is still a secret to the reader and to Lily. Lily's grandmother didn't have alot of time in this book, but hopefully that will change. Really good book, I like the added dimension of Dis, or Hell as we know it.

Yu is less annoying in this one. Will keep reading just for the interesting worldbuilding.

Ba Da Ba Ba Baaa....

I’m going to just jump right in. This series deals with that sort of instant, instinctual...on a deeper level kind of connection between the two main characters. Now I’ve had discussions about the whole “imprinting” (using that phrase for lack of a better one) situation in some werewolf stories and they weren’t very good or encouraging discussions. I can’t remember word for word what was said, but I do remember feeling super apprehensive when I realized this series featured “imprinting” just because of what I’d heard about it prior. But I have to say…. In THIS particular series, not that I have any others to compare it to. I like it! Yea, it’s weird being forced to be with someone because their biology says so and there’s this strange pull that toward them that wont go away... But it’s also weird to for a grown man to turn into a wolf, so what are we really fussing about here?

Anyway what I’m trying to say is that I like what Rule and Lily’s predicament is adding to their dynamic and to the overall story arc. I like reading about them getting to know one another even though they’ve already been the most intimate you can be with a person. I like that they’re still figuring one another out and seeing if even really they LIKE each other as people. It’s interesting and of course entertaining to read. Lily is still kind of fighting for her autonomy and Rule just wants her to accept that ‘it is what it is’ and there is no use in fighting it.

Besides all that, Mortal Danger was a nice sequel in the Lupi series. It picked off right where Tempting Danger left off which I love. Who likes missing important parts of the lives of characters they’ve fallen in love with? No one, that’s who. The staff is still missing and Mr. Holy and Insane, Harlowe is the number one culprit for having taken it. And when dead bodies start showing up and demons try to posses Lily, things of course get complicated…

The stories Eileen has told in these two books so far are different and unique for me. Not saying that it’s hard for me to find something in this genre that is unique considering I’ve only read two other Urban Fantasy series. But its more with this series so far.  There are werewolves, Wiccan, Sorcerers, Gods and Goddesses, trolls, demons, Dixies and of course regular ole human folk. You would think that with EVERYTHING else going on, all of these different creatures with their powers, Gifts, problems and drama, would be too much for one story but it all comes together so nicely and makes sense. Everything fits.

There was a small little part where things got to be a bit confusing, but even that was cleared up and woven together into a nice little quilt of good story telling. I’m just enjoying these books! Can you tell?

Anyway, Rule and Lily are my current favorite ship. The next TWO books aren’t about them which kind of makes me want to cry and eat frozen yogurt from the spout. But I’m going to build me a nice little bridge and get over it. The next book “Blood Lines” is about Cullen and a new character, Cynna who I haven’t quite figured out yet but I do like. I can tell by the way Eileen writes and the way these first two books have played out, that nothing is done for nothing. So if the next two books are about Cynna and Cullen, then there is a definite reason for it being so and they’re important. I look forward to getting back to Rule and Lily, but I’m intrigued by what trouble Cynna and Cullen will get into in the meantime.

This book took me forever to finish. I loved the first book in the series. It was solid and very pleasing, but unfortunately I have to say that the second installment in the series didn't really grab me. It wasn't bad, it was just so out of the world that I didn't connect to the story. Especially the second part of the book, where Lily's soul is split and one part of her is in hell while the other remains on earth... THAT really freaked me out. I also wasn't quite happy with how the story ended. Oh well, can't always have a story after my taste.
It was still pleasing to read. The pace is fast and digging. The characters development is great too as well as the overall background story about people that will later pop up in the other books.

I'm still debating whether or not I'm going to continue reading this series. I'll see what happens in the future.
