I thought for sure I wasn't gonna care for this one in the first half; although I thought the stream of consciousness writing style was really inventive and felt ahead of its time, I felt like this book would require intense study and rereading to be appreciated, or even understood, at any level, which I did not feel any compulsion to do.
But the second half really helped put everything in context, and pulling back the curtain from the viewpoint of such a Grade A piece of shit like Jason Compson says something about the mindsey of the author. The decline of southern slave aristocracy, and the struggle of the mindset that came with that to fit in to a reconstructionist society, turned into a compelling read that I would consider revisiting in order to fully comprehend.

Can sense that this book was really good, but so much of it went over my head that I can't say I enjoyed it so much. Well written, but not enough for me to want to reread it again to decipher what happened. Glad I read it however.
This is the worst book ever. Why this is a classic is beyond me. I guess I could go on and on about how truly terrible this book is, but I won't. The first 264 pages (at least in my edition) has 3 long chapters narrated in a stream of consciousness by 3 of the characters apparently shifting through time. (By the end of the book, the reader finds that the first narrator isn't even able to verbalize words - just be warned.) The final chapter starting in my edition at page 265 and going to the end which is page 326 provides the best overview of what this book is about. Of course, the author punked the reader with the opening quote from Macbeth, "...it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing" I've given this 1 star but it really deserves 0 stars.
I "really liked it" in the same way I "really like" being beaten with a hose... it feels so good when it stops that you'd almost go through it again. No, really, by the end, the tragedy felt personal. It hurt a lot and I guess that makes it an amazing novel.

This book was surprisingly good. There is a reason that this is one of the most beloved books/ best books ever written. Maybe not completely my cup of tea, but was an excellent read.
