Wow. Just wow. I’ve always been curious about the conflict in Northern Ireland and this book went so in depth on it. The Boston Project was so interesting and I am so surprised it isn’t talked about more. It’s amazing that these people got IRA members to speak to them about their time in a paramilitary organization that was illegal to be in. Also Gerry adams?!?! He seems like a complete sociopath and I wish he went to jail and rotted there.
Anyways please read this book because it gives you so much history of the Irish that I feel is not spoken enough about.

I came into this book knowing practically nothing about the Troubles, or who any of the major players were. PRK not only managed to articulate a very nuanced struggled clearly for the uninformed, but also was able to make you feel a bond and attachment to everyone involved, not just one side or the other.
The story is kind of centered around one major disappearance/kidnapping of Jean McConnville, but it is really just kind of a central hub used to bring every other person into the fold. The story is paced brilliantly, whenever your mind starts to wander back to wondering more about the original case at hand, PRK seems to preempt you and tie what he has just told you back into the case.
The best thing I can say about this book is it truly feels objective. You do not feel swayed to one side or the other, even though there might be implicit bias. You are able to see everyone's perspective on the struggle quite clearly, and also see the true horrors every person living through the Troubles had to deal with.
A great read which I would recommend to pretty much anyone, especially if you have an interest in either history or crime.

Very compelling and extremely interesting. Highly recommend if you want to know more bout the troubles. It’s a fascinating, empathetic tale that doesn’t identify easy heroes or villains.
