great read ofc but not my fave austen—fanny didn’t really speak to me
finished finally. third reading and liked it better this time around than I thought I would. still least favorite of Austen's works, although that's like saying vanilla is my least favorite ice cream flavor. it's still ice cream and I'm still gonna enjoy it.

I was loving it and was fully prepared to give it four stars. But then I got to the ending... I've seen the BBC version of the movie so I was pretty sure who Fanny was going to marry. But while reading the book, I couldn't see how it was going to resolve to that "happy" ending. Unfortunately, I thought the ending was incredibly rushed and was very disappointed with how the book concluded.
Surprisingly, my favorite character was not Edmund or Fanny or Mr. Crawford, but Sir Thomas! I was much more interested in how he evolved as a parent. That felt like true character development over the course of the novel, much more so than any of the other characters.

I actually wanted Fanny to end up with Mr. Crawford, to finally be persuaded by his long-lasting efforts to win her love. Having Mr. Crawford suddenly run away with Mrs. Rushworth, and for Edmund to suddenly discover that Fanny is, after all, his true love? It felt like a blow to the reader. That's not how I wanted the story to turn out. I don't think this is going to be a favorite.Surprisingly, my favorite character was not Edmund or Fanny or Mr. Crawford, but Sir Thomas! I enjoyed this book, however, the ending was so textbook! I knew from reading the first chapter how it would end, that's what made it a three star book for me. I always root for the bad boy in Jane Austen's novels and was hoping that Fanny would end up with Crawford, although I knew it would take time and patience for that to happen.
