My favorite Moore book! Hilarious, a little scary, but truly awesome.

I really liked this novel. It does use foul language, but the idea of the beta make intrigued me. I have been spotting them everywhere since starting this book. I liked all of the characters and was not tired of them when it ended. I will definitely try another in this series.

Reread (5/2021) I still enjoyed the characters and the pacing. You definitely are left wanting more.

Funny at times and the idea of the plot was intriguing but the constant reference to beta/alpha males, the continuous sexual descriptions of the female characters and not the male characters, the typical stereotyping of the neighbours, and the ridiculous plot line at the end where he thinks he's the chosen Death when the whole time his daughter has been able to kill people with a word is baffling.

There is no reason that it should've taken me a year to read this book. It's cute, I guess, but I get the same feeling from reading Christopher Moore that I get from reading Tom Robbins - he's just trying a bit too hard and thinks he's a bit more clever than he actually is. Still an amusing read though.

Probably the funniest book I've read all year. Unfortunately it tends to provoke me into laughter just as my daughter is about to fall asleep, so her naps have been... well, suboptimal the past couple of days.

First off, there is a lot of swearing in this book. You have been warned. Second, I found the main character pretty obnoxious and all the other characters were based off of typical, possibly offensive, stereotypes. The humor was entertaining for the first little bit but then it just distracts from the story as the author tries to fit in every possible one-liner he can think of. I felt like the plot had promise and was interesting in the general sense, but there were quite a few plot holes and things that didn't quite add up or get explained as they should. It was difficult to keep track of time-wise, hard to tell if a week had passed or five years. Overall, I wasn't scratching my eyeballs out, but I sure was happy when it was over. It was for sure the weirdest book I've ever read.

Hilarious novel about a middle-aged single father who becomes a Grim Reaper while trying to maintain a normal environment for his daughter. The characters are met with obstacles and intrusions that can only be caused by the interesting take on death and the afterlife that Moore has chosen.

I made the mistake of going to the bookstore today and picked up another one of Moore's books. Impulse, I couldn't resist.
The book was pretty good, a little on the predictable side and a little light on the Moore wit that keeps me coming back, but I didn't think that I wasted my time.
