I had only really know Anna Wintour as a fashion mogul and nothing deeper. This biography really dove into the highs and lows of her career. It was truly interesting to learn about the fashion industry and how cut throat relationships and companies can be. Truthfully, my opinion went back and forth on how I viewed Wintour. Otherwise the actually storytelling was compelling, albeit somewhat redundant with certain themes.
The review on the cover lied. This is very putdownable.

This book is expansive and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to gather all this research and then turn it into something cohesive and readable. It does seem to want to have it both ways, though: to critique Wintour but then at the same time lionize her. I’m not sure it did that effectively; maybe I was expecting a different type of book. I almost rounded up to 3 stars because of the amount of work and effort that you can tell went into this book, but ultimately felt it was all over the place. YMMV.

I love a biography of someone completely random to me. In a book a read recently, the author had worked with Anna Wintour briefly and it sent me down the Anna rabbit hole and I downloaded this bio. I loved it. I learned so much about the media industry that I never thought I'd want to know. I felt the author portrayed Anna as the complex character she is. She acknowledged the public reputation Anna carries but did a great job of showing that she is so much more than that. I have a lot more admiration for her as a businesswoman than I ever had before - not that I ever really paid much attention. I now also have a ton of other people, stories, etc. that I want to dig further into thanks to the wealth of knowledge in this book. I'm impressed with the authors thorough research and ability to get interviews with such important players in Anna's career, as well as her ability to convince Anna to be okay with this story being told.
