Worthy read. Interesting to learn something of the history of the Medici family in Florence. Beautiful writing and engaging characterizations. Definitely recommend if Renaissance historical fiction of women is your thing, otherwise, just so damn depressing.

This kept my attention from beginning to end. Loved the writing and the story.
It's a book that will take you on a journey you won't soon forget. The vivid and atmospheric descriptions transport you straight into the story, making it easy to lose yourself in the pages. And the relatable characters will have you feeling like you're right there with them, experiencing their joys and sorrows. It's a beautiful and engaging read that you won't want to put down. Trust me, I couldn't stop thinking about this book for days! If you're looking for a captivating and immersive read, "The Marriage Portrait" is definitely one to add to your list.
If this review was based on the writing alone, it was stunning! As I’ve come to expect from Maggie O’Farrell. 5 stars out of 5! The story, however, was not, so much. I feel like with the prologue I was sold one thing. I was expecting something captivating. Unputdownable. But not a lot really “happened.” This read more like a slice of life. I wonder if it didn’t start with how it ends, if I would feel differently.
