Loved it! Historical fiction is kind of only my genre if Maggie O’Farrell is writing it.

Brilliant.

Love how much depth there is to her characters

I absolutely love reading of herstory that was often buried, erased or unknown. It is amazing to read the fiction accounts of what possibly could have been.

Microcosms. Suspense built across years and seconds. Exquisite symbolism of artwork conveying what’s happening in her life. The painting of the dead starling being stolen by Vitelli while contracting her betrothal. Perfection. Thoughtful breadcrumbs placed gently in engagingly normal familial scenes—insightful betrothal gifts opened while older sister has jealous fit. The language rushes like a downhill stream, highlighting bends and weaves of even the slightest emotions. Got a little caught up with life in the middle of the book, but the language lovingly swept me back up into the Duchess’s world. The ending was like Lucrezia’s paintings, small and fragile with curiosity still blooming under the surface.

it was a pleasant audiobook but the premise was more interesting than the story execution. I might read Hamnet now I get the O'Farrell vibe tho
