Honestly, I have to say the story was captivating, I read it in a day. This is the only positive point in this story.
I wouldn't call this a thriller, maybe a mediocre one... The characters are all horrible and twisted.
The memoir real or not, choose to believe what you want, (I'm completely sure it was real, CoHo even said it in an interview) was dark and horrible, I mean I understand that child abuse exists and it's important to talk about it to raise awareness and stop it, but don't use it for shock value in such a terrible book, and don't add pure smut scenes in between these horrifying moments...

Overall, badly written, and had bad characters and honestly the plot wasn't even scary or mysterious honestly we could get the outline of the plot twist easily from the first 25% of the book.
I would put trigger warnings on child abuse and murder/murderous thoughts along with useless shock-value gore...
And never recommend it to anyone.
It's the 3rd and last CoHo book I'm reading.

I actually, rather grudgingly, have to give this a good rating. It's ridiculous, it's batshit crazy. It made me laugh at moments it shouldn't have *because* it was batshit crazy. But it did have me invested and the ending did actually get me. I wasn't expecting that. And the writing was good barring the profound amount of sex and absurdity.

This book was dark and twisty. The ending was not what I expected but I still feel that trigger warnings should be made at the beginning of the book

What a unique plot. I have never read or heard of a story similar to this one.

I loved how this was staged. A ghost writer who thinks the original writer is faking her paralysis. A manuscript that makes the original writer sound like a psychopath. A rocky past. I can’t decide if the original author is just really good at writing or a psychopath. I feel like she’s a psychopath, but I don’t know. I wish the ending was slower. I don’t like how Jeremy just kills Verity on spot. It was so quick. I get that the letter is supposed to 180 a-ha moment but I wish the turn around time between the two was slower or written differently.

My favorite Colleen Hoover book BY FAR!!! I think this style suits her sooooo much better than the romance novels I’ve read of hers. I flew through this book, and I was so immersed in it that I was actually starting to feel scared lol. I loved the transitions of what was going on in the house and switching to Verity’s manuscript. It was so dark, and I wanted to just keep reading and reading to see what other sick things Lowen would discover. I loved this twisted take on a thriller book. The ending truly left me questioning what was true and what wasn’t. A really good plot twist, even though I was sort of anticipating something to take a turn like that at the end. I just can’t emphasize enough though how much more enjoyable this book was for me compared to Ugly Love 😅 I’d love to see Colleen Hoover write more books in this style 🙏🏼
