The first part of this trilogy was intense. I was prepared for what was to happen, but that doesn't mean I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book.

What it's about: Secrets abound and a group of sirens are wreaking havoc on a little beach-side town. Gemma accidentally gets caught up in the middle of things.

What I thought: While sirens/mermaids aren't exactly a fresh concept these days, Hocking has given us something that tries to scream different. Sure, the story line intrigued me, but the fact that I disliked all the characters so much, just kind of blinded me to everything else. Harper has had to take over the 'mum' role after her own mother gets sent away for special care. She studies too hard, she doesn't play enough and to be honest, she was down-right boring. Especially when there is a hot piece of man-candy trying to get her attention and she keeps blowing him off. More than once. Gemma, on the other hand, was all about swimming, more into the boys and less into the caring. While it wasn't her fault she got caught up in the action, you think she'd have been less oblivious.

Despite all this, the story line was interesting enough to hold my attention through-out the whole book.

The Good: Got to give props to Daniel. He was the one part of the book I actually liked and was interested in!

The Bad: Well, I pretty much said it all above.

I loved it, really good take on Sirens, and the mythological aspect of them was real close to the Greek one. Can't wait to get my hands on Lullaby, Amanda Hocking never disappoints. But the Trylle trilogy is still my favorite.

Another book to add to the "i have no memory of this book" so it's hard to give an accurate ratimg. These are the two things i remember 1. one of the chracters having my name 2. three girls turning into birds?? And when i finished this book i was left with a lot of confsuion of what i just read. But, fun times.

Like all of the other books I've read by Amanda Hocking, this one was a really quick read. I think I finished it in only a couple hours total reading time. I enjoyed her vampire series, her take on the seven deadly sins and seven virtues, and her troll/changeling trilogy. The Watersong series moves on to Sirens and I felt drawn into the book rather quickly. Sometimes the dialogue felt awkward, but that was because of the characters, not the writing, so in the end it was actually amusing. For example, Daniel tells Harper that the coffee is good and she replies, "It's Folgers." It totally sounded like something overly responsible Harper would say, not quite realizing that Daniel is there because he likes her. And many of the interactions between Harper and her younger sister Gemma really do feel like a typical sibling relationship. I'm looking forward to Lullaby, the second book in the quartet and I'm glad that I only have about another six weeks until it comes out.

Hmmm well it wasn't too bad, but it was pretty weird. like. I couldn't get really really into it and I felt like it went really fast. But I really want to read the next book when it comes out hehe

I have never been a huge fan of "mermaid" themed books. There are a few that I have found to enjoy, but not many. The only reason I ventured into this world again was the fact that it was written by Amanda Hocking. Everyone is raving about her writing and her amazing publishing deal she received awhile back. I figured there must be something to her writing if publishers were this excited about signing on a new writer.

I am still on the fence about this read. While I can see the allure of the authors writing, I am still not sold on the mermaid and sirens. All I can think about is a fin getting in the way while trying to hug someone. I know it seems childish, but my brain can't seem to compute this with romantic and alluring. This is just a personal peeve and not one that another reader should hold against a mermaid themed book. On that note, the story itself was entertaining, but not outstanding. Yes it held my interest and I was glad to have read this new read, but it is not one that blew the others in pile out of the water. (no pun intended) Also the climatic ending was pretty good and I give it points for keeping me interested enough to want to try the next book.

I can say that this author does have a unique writing style even if it did seem a little on the young side. I know this is an author with many books under her belt though, so I will try and read other stories by her before making a final decision on adding her to my auto-buy list.

A refreshing twist on the typical Mermaid's tale. While the story wasn't particularly eye opening, the writing was fantastic and the characters were well developed. 4/5 would read again.
