This book was just meh. I like these characters, but their stories have gotten monotonous.

I have listened to/ read the first 4 Grant County books, and have really enjoyed them, until this one. At first I thought it was the narrator, but I ended up enjoying her range much more than the previous narrator. It was definitely the writing itself. For me it seemed like the author was going through the motions. Highly repetitive in segues, and I found myself not wanting to finish the book, getting sick of Sarah and Jeffrey's drama, that took away from the thriller part of the book.
I didn’t enjoy book #4 in this series but #5 redeemed itself. Karin Slaughter is such a great storyteller! Like others, I’m a little tired of the back & forth relationship of Jeffery & Sarah but I’m still drawn to them. The ending of this one, as Jeffery’s getting into the truck to pursue another man, causes me to be nervous before I begin the next book in this series. I hope Lena will finally have happiness and safety in the next book.

3.5 ⭐️ I was kind of disappointed by this one. I listened to most of this on audio, so that could be why it’s 3.5 stars instead of 4. I found it really hard to keep all the characters straight. At one point I stopped trying to remember everyone’s name and the relationship to each other. I will say I actually enjoyed Lena’s perspective in this book, which normally I can’t stand reading from. And of course I still love Sara and Jeffrey and the entire Linton family (especially Billy and Bob) !!
