Victor is the bad boy. Monika is the good girl. Trey is his best friend and her boyfriend. Vic's dad hates him and thinks he's just a screw up even though he's basically raising his younger sisters because his dad is too busy. Monika has juvenile arthritis but hasn't told anybody including her boyfriend. But she does tell Vic. Trey is about to be valedictorian but the pressure is getting to his, as is his secret life. He's not only cheating on Monika, he's taking amphetamines. Monika confronts him about the cheating and he denies it. She confronts him about the pills and the first time he says they're for anxiety. The next time she actually gets a good look at them and he doesn't deny it, he says he's not addicted he just needs help because of all of the pressure he's under. She says she can't be with some who is on drugs and he convinces her to wait until after the homecoming dance to break up; she agrees since it's only a few days away. At football practice Vic puts a big hit on Trey and he doesn't get up and they have to squad him. He goes to his dad for help and he says fix it yourself and when he says he can't his dad basically tells him he's worthless. So Vic runs away to hid at his cousin's and he deals with killing his best friend by hiding from the world. Monika quits cheerleading and gets a job at the Isobel's shop. Alex, from the perfect series, shows up to help out at the shop and him being all hot and muscly makes Vic jealous and helps pull him out of his fog a bit. Monika is persistent and that pulls him out too. Finally, he is convinced that he killed him and goes to the police station and the cop, who he has encountered before, tells him that Trey's death was an accident and shows him a letter from his coach which talks about how they need to keep looking for Vic. Vic finally shows back up to school and talks to his coach, and he tells him without telling him and it was drugs. Vic returns home, and one of his sisters is happy, the other not so much. He goes back to school and makes things official with Monika. I was wondering how the two of them were going to end up together since she started the book with someone else. A cheating scandal for the "perfect" couple would have been good, but him dying and them having to deal with the fallout was super complicated. I liked that Alex and Brittany were referenced, and that Alex made an appearance in this book. I liked Isobel and her development. This was enjoyable.

I loved this book although I wish it was so short considering it was gone in a day. I think it would have also been nice if it focused more on Victor and Monikas relationship and just more of them in general!!!! Over all great book haven't been disappointed by Simone Elkeles yet!!!!

J'ai bien aimé, bien plus que le tome 1. J'ai préférée l'histoire que j'ai reçoive plus belle et touchante. Par contre, j'ai trouvé que la fin est allée un peu trop vite.

I couldn't put this down. Well, okay I had to put it down for a bit here and there but I did finish it in about half a day.

I really loved this one though there were a few things I hope get a little more detailed in future books - I'm of course assuming there will be more in this series.

Another interesting thing about this book - to me it felt like there was something personal about this story for the author. I can't put my finger on it exactly but I think it added something ... extra emotional to the story.

Also, happy points for the Alex and Grandma W. cameos!
