Can't help but suspect that this one was underserved by the translation.

wanted to read a book set in copenhagen before travelling there and it was surprisingly difficult to find one that wasn’t a murder mystery or something like that. ended up reading it mostly when i was already there - in many cafes and the public library and the national gallery and several parks which was nice. i was also (not intentionally) staying in the same area where most of the action takes place (vesterbro) and could experience wandering around the same streets as ole jastrau at night, maybe more soberly than in the novel. i’m not sure if reading this book enhanced my experience of being there but it was pretty good. it was pretty depressing but not as dark as advertised!

I eventually became quite immersed in the world of the book: the city of Copenhagen, and the cast of characters that Kristensen spins for us. Ultimately though, there’s not much substance here. Also, I can’t for the life of me figure why this epilogue was tacked on. It actually detracts from the ending.
