absolutely amazing. So heartwarming and a great followup to the first book. I didn't realize that Hitler's mistreatment of the Jews didn't become common knowledge in all areas of society until later in the war, and that some Jewish refugees faced prejudice until that knowledge became more public.
Was great to learn more and enjoy such a beautiful story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I loved this book, so well done, even better than the first
While this is a good sequel to The War that Saved My Life, it was a bit less gripping for me. Ada's continued anxiety about her relationship to her mother and her difficulties in coming to terms with everyone got just a tad tedious for me after a while. And, sadly, I am not a horse person, so that part didn't move me either. Nevertheless, it is a good book, both about family relationships and about WWII. The characters are interesting and, for the most part, well developed. And, it doesn't shy away from the truth about relationships.
I still am thinking that Susan's relationship with Becky hints at a lesbian relationship, but it is never explicitly stated as such - just that they were good friends. In that era, my guess is that they would have described it as such.

You really can't help but care about and deeply love every character this author creates.
Wow. Stunning. Even better than the first book. I don’t generally read historical fiction, but I am so glad I tried this series.
This was great! I can’t really say if I preferred the first one or the sequel, because they both blur together in my mind. I see it as one story that I loved. It was very hard to put down and I’m so glad that I read it. My favorite aspect of this book was the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. It was very well done and well paced too. It didn’t happen too quickly and really showed the effects of war on everyone, not just the main character, and showed each character’s personal wars, too.

I really doubted this book would be as good as the first one- and I was wrong. It’s amazing.
This was such a great series. I love a well-written middle grade novel, I feel that, like this one, they often explore deeper/darker topics but are usually at least somewhat heartwarming, while still having room for complexity (in comparison to YA, which I enjoy but as a genre can lean shallow). I loved how both books explored a variety of topics but particularly how the author handled Ada's trauma/possible PTSD and disability. And I just loved all the characters -- really good character development. Of course I also appreciated the nods towards Susan and Becky's relationship and how easily most people just accept it.
