The Legacies is, unfortunately, not Goodman’s strongest work, with its “twists” playing out fairly predictably. It touches lightly on social class issues, but overall stays firmly a shallow teen mystery.

Taylor Swift songs: “Look What You Made Me Do”

Age rating: 14+ (No sexual content, but language, violence, substance abuse)

I wouldn’t say this is my favorite Jessica Goodman book, but I thought this was still good! The rich private school setting with an elite club was an interesting concept! I think having 3 different POVs made it a little difficult to keep up at first, but eventually I was able to keep up and make sense of it. I do think it was a very interesting choice to not even reveal who died until the very end! This book did keep me guessing and had many turns I would not have expected! Overall, it was pretty good!

Gossip Girl meets Big Little Lies in this twisty thriller set in NYC’s elite social circles.

Jessica Goodman is an auto-borrow author for me. Her YA thrillers are so good and they never *feel* YA, you know what I mean?

I actually liked most of the main characters, except Skylar. For a bunch of rich kids, they weren’t the most annoying.

I do wish the ending was extended. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I wish the author expanded more on what happened after. Some people will enjoy the ending that is open to interpretation.

highlights:
• quick read that keeps you wanting more
• POV from three main characters, plus unbiased narrative chapters of what happens immediately after the murder
• fun pop-culture references

thank you NetGalley + Penguin for this ARC. The Legacies it out now!

This was fun enough! It was interesting and fairly layered, keeping me gripped throughout - I particularly liked the way that the 'on the night' sections kept you guessing as to who had fallen. There was also a lot of interesting stuff about class, and a little about addiction, although the latter could have been better explored maybe. I don't think it's Jessica Goodman's best, and some of the twists were a bit predictable, but definitely not a bad read.

An ultra-elite club invite to a scholarship student? But who nominated her and why? What sins of the past, and current sins got her in? And who ends up dead, and why?

I didn't know who was going to be the one who was dead until the reveal. However, I guessed the who killed them part. I also say other parts of the story coming, mostly revolving around the settlement. I did like how the past with Tori's mom intersected with the now and Tori's life.

However, most of the characters weren't very likable, which made the book a bit harder to enjoy. Though all the narrators were excellent!

It was overall a good thriller with lots of twists and turns.

Jessica Goodman is always good for a quick, fun mystery/thriller read and this one is no different! This time, it's set at an event for private school students, trying to get into The Legacy club. But there's possibly something sinister going on in the background that leads to the death of one of the students.

People who like things like Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars will probably thoroughly enjoy this one! I found the mystery a little easy to figure out, but that's part of the reason I like coming back to these books. They always guarantee a twisty mystery and definitely make for quick reads.
