This was a really fun read. The art style is nice and the colours very bright and cheery. And of course the little dragon, Nate, is really cute!
The story was interesting, but is definitely aimed at a younger audience. I think kids would really enjoy this, but for me, while I can see that it is definitely a good book, it is a bit too young for my interest to be kept. Therefore I'm happy I read it, but wouldn't reread it.
There were a few points in the story where the characters annoyed me, but generally they were fun and likable enough. I guessed that

Der erste Band der City of Dragons-Reihe ist ein altersgerechter Comic, der hoffentlich zusätzlich zum Spaß und Abenteuer auch Lust darauf macht, sich näher mit chinesischer Mythologie und Geschichte zu beschäftigen.
Die Zeichnungen sind einfach und teilweise ein wenig schludrig, was dem comic relief zugute kommt. Die Farben sind wunderschön gewählt und unterstützen mit ihren kräftigen Tönen die Magie der Drachen.
Geschickt wurde die Geschichte um den Gelben Kaiser in die Handlung eingebaut und trägt so die Handlung durch den ersten Band. Die Gefahr durch den gegnerischen General ist häufig spürbar und lässt unsere junge Gruppe von Freund*innen zahlreiche kleinere Abenteuer erleben, die zu einem großen ersten Finale voller Twists führen.
Mir waren die comic reliefs zwischendrin zu viel und auch teilweise unsensibel. Deshalb finde ich es extra gut, dass die Schwarze Figur der Gruppe den Witzbold der Gruppe angesprochen und konfrontiert hat.
Insgesamt denke ich, dass es ein guter Comic für junge Lesende ist, jedoch auch Gespräche erfordert, um manche "Witze" in den Kontext zu setzen.

Adventure, fantasy, and friendship all woven together. Love the inclusion of historical story telling passed down from generation to generation. Grace's relationship with her step dad and losing her father may be relatable to a lot of younger students.
3.5/5 Fun, fantasy graphic novel for readers aged 9+ with bright, attractive illustrations that touches on themes of friendship, mythology, grief and adventure. This is the first in a series and I look forward to seeing how the story progresses. A great addition to any primary school library!
