Found this in the attic of my new house and since I hadn't read it decided to keep it and give it a go, and do you know what, I'm glad I did. Despite the age of the story and the judgemental story I actually enjoyed this. Yes Hawthorne writes in a very old fashioned way (kind of expected this given when it was written) and there is more detail about seemingly inane things than you would normally expect. But despite this I found myself quietly routing for Hester and Pearl as the story went on and I even got a little emotional as the story reached it's end as it showed that even though a relationship doesn't abide by the 'rules' of the time, it doesn't make it any less significant, important or meaningful to those involved. Maybe Hawthorne was/is trying to teach us a lesson, maybe the point is to show that you shouldn't judge, instead let people find their own ways through life. We can only walk in our own shoes after all.

I personally love this book but its hard to read since we are reading it in my hamlit class. The english is super confusing and I keep getting mixed up between the words that I needed to google the summary. But, it finally made sense once I read it.
